why do these stories always come out of Kansas anyway?
"It takes a special kind of stupid to teach children that vaginal sex and anal are examples of an abstinence-based curriculum."

These people are shocked and appalled that schools teaching their kids the truth. Parents should be free to keep their kids away from any lesson, until they're adults. People encounter the truth one way or the other, either by chance, the Internet, or by reading the very-non-PC version in Gilgamesh, the oldest written story known to humankind.

Oddly, I hope my kids, now 5 and 3, encounter it first in Gilgamesh, in parallel with the Our Whole Lives program at church. Hopefully by 13 they'll be getting a bit of the critical thinking skills to evaluate msg from the gov't, pop culture, Internet, etc; and they'll make lots of mistakes in the process. Even if they go to public schools, which we're not ruling out, a sign at the public schools won't outrage them or us. The world is run by people who show up, and I insist they show up and do something, even things I don't agree with. Passively reading gov't signs is not acceptable.

A sign stating the simple truth is no big deal whatsoever. The shocked and appalled people would have been shocked and appalled by something, so let it be this sign.

“A lot of parents view the school as a babysitter,” he said. “My message is to stand up. Let’s take charge of our kids. There are so many out of control kids in the nation.”
"It’s the parent’s job to parent, not the schools.", Mr. Ellis said.

This really seems like an attempt to test the waters of parental outrage. I'd like to talk to the creep who hung that on the door and thought it was okay. Really???

The gov has NO business discussing different types of affection or sex. If you REALLY want to make sure your kids get taught what you want them to be taught and not a bunch of other junk then HOME SCHOOL. A=A.

I pay for a service I should have a say so as to the quality of that service. I tried to look up the company that provided the material. On their website they are a global education provider founded by a Dr. somebody.

I don't care what their education back ground or what accolades they have manged to rack up...they are idiots.
The letter from the superintendent states that parents are 'allowed" to opt their kids out of the program with written permission... UM...wouldn't it make more sense for the school to send home a copy of this poster attached to a permission slip to sign for their kids to ATTEND the program instead??? Wow. Not that I think this should be done at a school whatsoever, I'm just making a point. Again I say..IDIOTS!

I like it, the poster sent home for review, that is. That's going to increase the attendance at the next PTA meeting.

the student took a picture of it with her phone.I cannot imagine what the principal and district officials were thinking, supporting the use of the poster. There is so much to learn in middle school as it is. I am sure some 12 and 13 year olds are having sex. the poster seems to almost encourage it. am I reading too much into this?

No... you're not reading too much into this. You're seeing it for exactly what it is... the morons in charge are not reading enough into it and ignoring the obvious... perhaps they're more focused on their pensions.

Except IT WON'T HAPPEN...and that is precisely why, they don't want parents to know. Then again, sooo many parents DO NOT PAY ATTENTION. School is day care and they're not concerned what goes on there or what and/or if their kids are learning all day long. Hell..and some are okay with it.

I doubt he does, I doubt he cares. He is part of the system. There are not many anthropologist jobs. All of this talk about Data Driven bla bla bla is the result of computer companies and politician making deals to computerize education. The other side of it is the Corporations want students that are more prepared for the global arena. They want little robots that don't ask questions and don't piss people off.

I included it for a reason. These are the so called experts that are force feeding the education system Standards Based Education and Evidence based Data Driven whatever other buzz words. Think about it an Anthropologist owns a company that is part of the standards. Teachers have no input. Their principal answers to the Superintendent who answers to the State Superintendent who accepts the federal funds from the people making the backroom deals with the Anthropologist type company so they learn a global perspective of sex? WTH

No cronyism going on there... by 'smart' people. I just wish (and this not directed at you) that people would start looking at a person's principles (actions/words/habits/decisions...) instead of their 'credentials'. Just because a person spent a lot of years in school doesn't mean they make logical decisions. As a matter of fact it seems to have to opposite effect. Which is amazing and colossally disappointing... BOTH
