History? . Herstory? . they rewrite it daily, so it's a
tale of the future which these words now represent. -- j

If "The [Confederate Battle] flag represents countless hangings, burnings, rapes, beatings, maimings, wrongful arrests and convictions, denial of opportunities, abduction, slavery, over a century of oppression, and lifetimes of feeling like second rate citizens.", then perhaps the vitriol is pointed at the wrong flag. Most of those things took place under the Stars and Stripes and flags of other nations, including African, predating the Stars and Stripes. Ban 'em all, eh?

    True!

I believe the powers that be at Apple considered this may be the catalyst that has good potential to create a competing iOS app web site similar to the Apple Store. First, Civil War related apps, then many other apps. The revenue loss can go far beyond the apps that depict a non-PC flag.

Apple has already been a new-age type of religion for hipsters for years if not decades, it is now morphing into the very substance of the politically correct establishment.
Expect their next move to be censoring the games deemed "too masculine" for their feelings...

The CSA Battle Flag is a historical symbol. One may not like what it symbolizes, but if we ban everything that a certain group doesn't like, there's a pretty good chance that we'll soon have nothing that represents anything.

We haven't been taught history, but fables. Blacks (as well as whites) played a major role in bringing slavery to the US. Many of them were also significant players in the institution of slavery during the antebellum days. All of this took place before "we hold these truths to be self evident..." so there may be some justification for such behavior; slavery has existed in the world since Biblical times, or before.

The South may have won the war, if they had given up slavery and removed it from the equation. Britain and France might have supported their fight, and that would have turned the tide. By the time they decided to drop slavery as a core issue and bring blacks into the Confederate army, it was too late. Nevertheless, some 90,000 blacks joined the Confederate army, an army that was integrated from the start.

That is not what it means today and most people know it. This agenda is being pushed by obsessive racists accsuing anything they don't like or can conjure up as "racist" in order to become ever more progressively oppressive. Attributing this or any other belief to "black'' versus "white" is itself racist.

What did the British flag mean to those who left England to come to America only to end up having to fight the British anyway?

That was the purpose... to confound history, good bad and ugly. Afraid someone would find the truth implicates THEM!

I'm going to go out on a limb here with a different set of facts people seem to ignore.

For white folks, the Confederate flag represents a chapter in history where one emerging white culture was forcibly retained within another white culture's national union, but still maintains and celebrates a sense of local identity. As such, it is somewhat analogous to the Scottish flag flown by nationalists within the UK.

But for black people, the comparison breaks down. The flag represents countless hangings, burnings, rapes, beatings, maimings, wrongful arrests and convictions, denial of opportunities, abduction, slavery, over a century of oppression, and lifetimes of feeling like second rate citizens.

The confederate flag is a potent symbol that, amongst other things, screams out the message "Know your place, N*GG*R!!"

Another accomplishment for our president. How many does that make now? I assume this is just another branch of PC. I wonder what he's going to do when he reads the article about the black slave owners.

When will the White House fly the GLBT flag, or is it LBGT, I don't know, it's all getting pretty sick anymore, all this nonsense.

In the article it says that Apple also removed Tank Battle 1942 because it portrayed Germans and Russians as enemies. Uh, the last book I read of about 35 in total on that epic struggle on the Eastern front, they were enemies.

Apparently Apple is infected with the fact resistance virus.

Where will the self-imposed flag banning end? There are a number of them that I'd like to obliterate from public observation.

And to make this even more outrageous, while Amazon, Ebay and Apple are removing all things confederate, you can still buy Nazi Swastika, and Che merchandise....

    Talk about brain-dead hypocrisy.

Apple just backed off, and its Gettysburg war game is back on the apps site. The reenactor market is just too big to be ignored.

I am very tired of political correctness. I have decided to say what I think, no matter what people think about it. If my thinking is wrong, I am open to changing it of course, but I am not going to hide in the shadows afraid of "offending people". Confederacy was part of our heritage and shouldnt be just 'erased". So was slavery. Even Jefferson had slaves, so why are we trying to hide it.

Maybe Apple's afraid a skilled player might change history - as in "which side won the war"?
