Cops who murdered Kelley Thomas acquitted.

Title pretty much tells the story. If you aren't familiar with this case, you should be. It is the ultimate, most ugly case of government force I'm familiar with. The acquittal sets a scary precedent. As a father I was driven to tears the first time I heard this story on the news. As this victim took his final breaths as the cops caved his face in he was yelling for his dad... pretty brutal stuff, folks.

    Ugh, this is terrible. Stuff like this makes it clear to me why songs like Ice T's "Cop Killer" are so popular. With police brutality so rampant, it's only natural for there to be significant resistance and hostility towards police officers.

    But at the same time, law enforcement is also obviously necessary for maintaining the peace and protecting society (at least that's what it's supposed to do).

    Is there any way to ensure that law enforcement serves its proper purpose without resorting to excessive brutality?

    Yikes... this is repugnant. I remember a few years ago when I believe it was Detroit police who shot a mentally ill man in his own driveway for not putting down a broom... it never was made clear whether the victim even understood the police ordering him to put it down, but what was clear was that he didn't pose sufficient threat as to warrant being shot... The cops were searching the neighborhood for someone else... Sad. I believe the city was sued but the cop/s got only suspension. The taxpayers paid for their mistake. I wonder how much of this went on before cameras were ubiquitous... There seems to be two justice systems. One for the peasants and one for those who live off the revenue... I know a couple of good cops, but ...

    It's all over the net if you search for "Kelley Thomas" and "Fullerton". There was a security camera in the parking lot where it took place. The cops didn't know it was there and it captured the attack, including some audio if I remember correctly. That video, I'm pretty sure, is on youtube. I can't get myself to watch it or listen to it. It's too hardcore. I have trouble even describing what these cops did. You'll figure it out if you look it up...

    They were having fun. The fat burrito cop cuffed Thomas, shook his glove-clad fist in his face and openly threatened him. Then it began. These are some very sick people.

    I cannot believe they were acquitted. I can't wrap my mind around it, given the evidence.

    The only things missing were the jackboots. Those cops sounded like they were having fun beating him.
