i think the deal is if you use the approved software and there is an error the software company is supposed to be on the hook. The IRS doesn't care about such rules. I've done the social security four five years now. The first three they refunded money when I asked for as check over because the social security was not done correctly. Didn't explain why? had I not asked zippo. This current year it worked out following directions to agree with the amounts refunded for paying over which I didn't change. Instead of a small refund I received no notification at all. There is an IRS site where you can check on whereabouts or status of your tax payment. It said no refund pay x amount more. We sent a letter on June 3rd. The distance is Atlanta to my USA address in Northern Florida. No letter as of June 21. As my sister put it they might not send the letter until months down the road and then fine you for not paying. they don't really care. So...July 1st the new payment goes out.
