China tests hypersonic missile

I have seen phrases tossed around like "We don't need a military so big" and "the constitution does not provide for a standing military." I figured I would post this for those in denial that the wolves still gather at the door.

It does not take much research to find out that it takes a lot to shoot down an incoming missile. Now think about trying to shoot one down while it was traveling at hypersonic speed.

Then again, maybe the Chinese plan to use these to deliver ice cream cones.

We're, or maybe I should say that our military had a retro-fitted commercial airliner with a chemical high energy laser on board to shoot down such vehicles. Even if it's hypersonic it can't out run the speed of light. Yes I know, if that plane was airborne it would have a chance of destroying it and not sitting in a hanger some where collecting dust. So, the US Govt. has Chinese money to spend on Obamacare and not spend on saving the country from annihilation. I bet he made a deal with China to get their loans so that nothing could be spent on defense but Obamacare was okay. Obama has sold the people of the US out.

Hmmm... So a commercial airliner traveling at about 500 mph is going to get close enough to a missile moving at about 7,600 miles an hour? Even if airborne you must account for the curvature of the Earth.

No, the missile could not outrun light, but you also have to track the missile and engage it. That means tracking and locking onto something moving at hypersonic speed.

If we had a counry spending HUGE (in excess of the rest of the wrold combined) sums of $$ on a worldwide military, with nuclear bombers flying by within 200 miles of our mainland whenever they "felt" like it, we would wnat some type of weapons also.
What would you expect China to do with the worldwide military force the US both projects and uses as a constant irritant?

China's obvious foreign policy is not constant military intervention like the US uses. China is focused on buying and controlling all the important natural resources. Their foreign policy is brilliant - when compared to ours in the US.

China, except right on their borders, shows no military interest or activity.
My only concern for military action by the Chinese arises only out of their reaction to our nuclear forces crusing and flying near or in their claimed borders. (Same technique US used to start or defend the wars with Mexico, Vietnam, etc. etc.).

The US went into both WWI and WWII underprepared, using obsolete equipment and strategy, and with a military commanded by peacetime politically-correct generals. I do not expect it to be different in the future. Fortunately re WWII, when the Japanese kicked us in the cojones we got off our duffs and responded vigorously. I expect that some act of aggression will have to take place against the US - probably in our heartland since world distance is now small - before we take modern strategic military tools seriously (though the wars in the ME have kept our tactics in pretty good shape).

I know it isn't very objectivist, but we need to take this very seriously as the military is one of the few federal powers enumerated in the Constitution. We broke the USSR with the cold war arms race, will we just cede the high ground to China by not even trying?

I wish we could deport all the rotters to China.
