Wasn't it an implied rule of the Gulch that when living in the "outside world" you had to blend in?

OK, I was really referring to the real world. Just my opinion, but it probably isn't a good idea to paint a target on both sides of your shirt with a sign that says "Surveillance Me". Ayn made a very distinct point of conveying the consequences of attacking the Government.

Good advice. I'm not paranoid, but I do try to be prudent. I don't hide under a rock, but know better than to do "Selfies" with a Black Bear in Yellowstone Park. You may want to watch the movie "Conspiracy Theory", however the technology in the movie is about 30 years out of date (You may not think so, but yes it really is). As Ayn pointed out in AS, governments become more and more fearful of their population, and acutely focused on public opinion, less it turn against them. And their fear is rightly placed. Just look at history. So far all governments in history have failed because those that gravitate in that direction, also are the least capable of controlling their greed and drive to control, and those they govern let them steal. Up to a point.

The truth is; I really feel for the person in this article, and sympathize with his right to be free to live off of the grid. But to me it is obvious he is thinking with his heart, not his mind (I'm sure I heard this in a movie or read it in a book ....).
