Since I first read this post, I have been trying to think of a favorite joke or punch line that could not possibly offend anyone. I haven't come up with one yet. For that matter, I am unable to think of a statement of opinion or fact (including this one) which does not carry the potential to rub someone the wrong way. And as we all know, there are plenty of people who make careers out of looking for excuses to "take offense".
I await the day when I will say "the sky is blue" and someone will respond with: "no, it isn't. The atmosphere and suspended dust diffract sunlight to a degree of approximately 4000 angstroms". And then proceed to give me some sort of trouble as the result of my statement.
I am often reminded of Drew Carey's comment in his book, "Dirty Jokes And Beer" (which commences with a dirty joke which he then dissects at great length to point out that it could not possibly be "cleaned up" and remain funny): "So something I said offends you. All right, BE offended. And then, SHUT THE FUCK UP!"
If this post has offended anyone, kindly take Mr. Carey's advice.
Bingo DaveM49, His comments can't be classified as hate speech.... It was a frickin joke. Anyone who takes offense to the comment is the one with the problem. I hope Steve rescinds his apology and tells the complainers to get off their politically correct high horse and find a life.
Those of you who recall "The Jerk"....do you think it could be made today? Or "Blazing Saddles" or any "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka" or any number of other movies that were designed to "offend" practically everyone (for delightful effect!)?
This sort of self-righteousness is a joke in itself. Unfortunately, it is a joke which is used as a tool of repression.
How can today's verbal contortionists get away with calling Martin's joke "racist". Sure it refers to race but it is about as demeaning as Obama saying to Michelle "You wanna go to the beach or to a movie?"
good point. and I do not think it's racist to refer jokingly to cultural trends-which is what that joke was actually doing. Here's Key and Peele doing it- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd7FixvoK... making jokes about cultural differences helps to bridge gaps not make them wider

One was apparently telling a story about the 4th, while the others cackled disbelief that the 4th woman would behave in such a way.
The gossip session ended, but not before one said, "I know... I think she was just having a blonde moment." following by general laughter.
None of the 3 women in the conversation were naturally blonde, or white.

I realize that it's politically incorrect to refer to female gossips as hens, but... too bad.
