I don't see a balance between free speech and not being a jerk. These people were being stupid jerks, and they have a fundamental natural right to do that. It's like the example one commentator gave about an event promoting racism. The commentator said that as if people don't have a right to hold an event supporting an evil cause like that. People do have a fundamental right to say stupid things.
