CPS needs to be reigned in

This is ridiculous. They don't have to prove wrong-doing like abuse - only allege it - and the parents are guilty until proven innocent.

CPS should be dissolved.

I did CPS for the state of Wyoming for 15 years. As there are good and bad people in every profession, there are also some dumb people and they are the ones that cause the problems. I am proud to say that in that 15 years, I never got a complaint from a parent or child, only from the self-righteous, self-centered, pseudo professionals in the community, when I didn't do what they thought I should do. I'm also proud to say that of all the case workers in the state, I got more letters of reprimand, council, and threats of termination than any others. One example of one of my triumphs. I took over a case wherein the owner of a state licensed child care facility was accused of abusing his 7-year old daughter. He didn't, but the state closed his facility summarily. When I took over the case, I called the licensing director and pointed out that they had taken his "property rights" without due process. She said, "We know what we are doing." I advised the man to contact a lawyer, mention Title 42, Section 1983. He did and sued and settled for enough to keep him out of bankruptcy. Afterwards, my supervisor (a good guy) said that the agency director questioned my loyalty. I sent her an email saying I heard what she said about me and that I questioned her integrity. Never heard a thing back.

It's not CPS that should be dissolved, It's the entire thought pattern that says that the state has anything to do or say about the family and children, positive or negative. It is simply none of their business unless there is direct evidence of a crime--then get a warrant, then investigate by police, then go to court. Dissolve social workers along with the entire mentality of social engineering and control. Let them all go back to their historical work of busy-bodying the neighborhood.

I think the root of all the problems we are now seeing it that most of our Federal Government is now controlled by recently educated people. They have been indoctrinating our kids for decades now. How many times do we say 'this is insane'. I myself think Modern Liberals are Mentally ill.

I had some friends go through this recently. what happened was an alleged abuse case-brought the social workers in to question the ENTIRE class without any parents being notified of this. While questioning regarding the one case, they gathered info due to questioning on everyone else. Then they decided to question some parents based on that questioning . basically, your child is questioned and anything they say can be used against YOU. It is unconstitutional and happening-at your child's school.

This is how the system will react to the exploding autism epidemic. This is probably the start. Almost all children with autism start out like this - a normal start, then they start missing developmental targets. The pediatricians then either blame the parent or just act stupid. Then, eventually, the diagnosis comes and the school system and society is asked to pitch in (per special education law). But, the system can't afford the epidemic. So...this is how they'll respond.

I agree. I have no children but I have seen the problems caused by CPS in other people's lives...and it was terrible and unnecessary.

Wow. This is very scary. Especially considering that it happened in Texas, and the mother has a PhD in SPECIAL ED!!!!! I guess the only bright side is that Orwell was 30 years early.

As a 24-year CPS veteran, I can say that this situation does sound ridiculous. I'd guess that the investigating social worker was inadequately trained, and/or had personal biases that led to this detention. Unless there's more to this story than has been disclosed, the child should be returned to his parents forthwith. I AM surprised that a judge would rule in favor of detention under these circumstances. However, I also know that they frequently do NOT read the reports presented as evidence.

that isn't all they don't read. Some time ago Oregon's version was presented a request to check out the background of someone applying for citizenship in Australia. Hadn't paid a dime of child support in well over ten years. No had any warrants been issued. However the regularly dun divorced parents for any payments not made through their system up to and including three months before the required date court even when proof of payment, sometimes double required payment was presented. The individual who ran into that last situation just turned the whole thing over to the bankruptcy court as a filed too late request and having noted it was not true and violated the other courts order suggested they back off or go to court themselves. Their answer was they made the rules not some Judge.

Something similar happened to me years ago (~2001)...thank goodness we had a wonderful state investigator who did her homework before even contacting me. Our daughter was not removed from our home - which was my only fear at the time ( her medical history was well documented, I knew no charges could be brought, but I didn't know if the child had to be removed as a matter of course.) Since my daughter's disorder is rare and presents itself as a stomach virus or chest cold (and people affected by these disorders appear perfectly healthy) placing her with people unfamiliar with the signs and symptoms of the disorder or who don't have a working knowledge of the seriousness, could prove fatal. How many people do you know who would be comfortable calling for an ambulance for a child who has vomited twice and looks like a regular, healthy kid? Especially if the reason the child is in your care is because the mother is being investigated for medical child abuse? My daughter has gone from healthy to vomiting a couple of times to unresponsive in a matter of only two hours. If we are not in the ER before she becomes unresponsive, her chances of survival are slim to none. If she had been removed and the state recommended a wait and see attitude...I still have nightmares.

For thirty days I was terrified. Even with the assurances of the investigator. The investigator promised me, during the face to face interview, the case would be closed on the thirtieth day. She made sure it didn't last any longer than that (and the implication was that she also couldn't close it out any sooner than that.)

The creepiness factor in the case was that a mandated reporter had filed the report. This meant that I would only learn the identity of my accuser if charges were brought.. Because no charges were brought against me, I was never allowed to know who accused me. This meant that someone, interacting with my child, didn't believe she had a medical disorder. What if it was her teacher, what if it was the school nurse? Who? I was dependent on all these people to call me, as instructed, if certain situations occurred. What if they didn't? Talk about becoming paranoid! Had to make a lot of changes, but it all turned out fine in the end.

Oh yes, and, by law, my name had to go on a state list of suspected child abusers. After one year I was allowed to request removal from that list.

I can't imagine the terror and pain these parents are going through having their child actually removed from their care. I wonder if an investigator, such as I had, even exists in today's environment. My heart goes out to them.

The state has no right interfering, at such a level, without solid evidence that a child is being harmed.

Neither does the US Government anymore. Mere Suspicion of Terrorism does not require any proof much less probable cause sufficient to ...... Somebody up in DC read Marighella and decided to switch the roles. The Cycle of Repression is now one of Hillary's favorite tools.'You know the one running for President who sez never let a good crisis go to waste!

CPS and IRS were just the advance party.

There have been some good movies, based on the Salem witch hunts. Whenever I hear stories like this, I am reminded of the movies.
Unfortunately, this is NOT fiction, but it IS a witch hunt.
