ABOUT DAVID KELLEY

The Atlas Society was founded in 1990 by Dr. David Kelley under the name “Institute for Objectivist Studies.” David Kelley is a professional philosopher, teacher, speaker, bestselling author, and long time proponent of Objectivism. He served as a consultant on all three parts of the Atlas Shrugged Trilogy.

A member of Ayn Rand's circle, Kelley read her favorite poem, "If—", by Rudyard Kipling, at her funeral in 1982.

ABOUT THE ATLAS SOCIETY

The Atlas Society has been promoting Open Objectivism for the past 25 years. Their website (http://www.atlassociety.org) describes the concept of Open Objectivism as:

“Objectivism is not a religion with teachings defined by a sacred text like the Bible or Qur’an. Our loyalty is not to Rand’s words but to the truth of her fundamental insights. A commitment to truth and respect for independent thought must lead onward to new questions, new answers. Our scholars have produced insights in Objectivist philosophy, from the virtue of benevolence to the nature of knowledge, and more needs to be done.”

The annual “Atlas Summit” is just one of the many ways the Atlas Society works to engage the public with the ideas of Ayn Rand.

Predicted weather as of now (I live a few miles away)

    Thur - Cloudy, high-77, low-61
    Fri - Partly sunny, high-82, low-54
    Sat - Partly sunny/T-showers, high-79, low-57
    Sun - Partly Sunny/T-showers, high-82, low 66

Subject to change of course, it is New England after all.

Early-Bird deadlines for Atlas Summit registration expire Sunday, May 17.

Combined with the discount code, and that's around a 40% savings on the regular registration fee.

Don't miss all the excitement of the Atlas Summit.

For those unfamiliar with New England here is what to expect for weather...

    Atlas Summit is late June.

About the best time of year to do it.

June is the month where New England puts on its happy face and tries to make you forget the winters past, and convince you that the upcoming ones will be mild.

Trees will have leafed out, flowers in bloom. Temps in the mid 70s to low 80s normally, could go a little warmer depending on weather fronts. Sunny or partly cloudy most days. Cooling at night down to the 60s.

In other words, one of the most physically comfortable times of the year to gather outdoors. At the Atlas Summit welcoming cookout for instance.

My only stop in Nashua will probably be to stock up on supplies at Costco and Trader Joe's. After brief stops to visit family in Manchester and the Lakes Region, I'll be cooking and selling chili all week up at Rogers Campground. Again, budget constraints unless this house sells much sooner than I expect.

Love to attend, but budgetary constraints. I'll have to just drive past on my way to the Porcupine Freedom Festival up in Lancaster.

Interesting thought. I had planned to fly out immediately, but I could probably work in an extra day.

This would be a good opportunity for a Gulcher get together after the summit if there is interest in such.

I know there are some site members within a few hours drive of Nashua.

The coat can go, Dale, but I hope the pants and socks stay on. Particularly as you are presenting again. :)

Thanks for the information. My question pertains to the actual costs. We have talked about this before and got an enthusiastic response for the Gulch supporting one or more scholarships.[edited for grammar]

Student scholarship information is at http://www.atlassociety.org/as/informati....

Basically, students can register online for free but then they must:

    1) Download and complete an application form (see the link above).

    2) Score 19 or better on our Basic Understanding of Objectivism Quiz (see the link above again.)

We promise an answer in a week once we get the applications. Applications before May 11 have the best chance of success.

you could have given a bit of context for what most people see as just getting dressed. Db lives in the tropics everyone. he wears a pair of shorts and sandals most days. He is very tan

    Will,
I had an idea about seeing if I could get Gulch support for a scholarship or two. What is the cost for bringing a student to the conference?

Please do consider the Atlas Summit.

We run an open-mind conference where anyone interested in Ayn Rand's work and ideas is welcome. Our only rule is civility and our only basic standard is rationality.

I'm happy to answer any question here in the Gulch.

    (I'm the conference director.)

I really enjoyed myself last year. The conversations were excellent and I found myself staying up late into the night. My only complaint is that it was a little cold and I had to put on a shirt, pants, socks and shoes and occasionally a light coat.
