Estate tax repeal vote

We all know that this most unfair of taxes will never be repealed as long as President Obama is still president. Someone posted a discussion recently questioning the need for morality for Objectivists. The estate (death) tax is a case where the argument MUST be made by Objectivists on moral grounds. Yes, I did earn that, and that wealth does not belong to anyone outside my family.

Sir, I have yet to find something you have written not worth my time and occasionally I am rewarded with a wonderful belly laugh. :)

Maybe I will add a clause into my will that says, "To federal, state, and local taxing authorities, I bequeathe absolutely nothing, which is exactly the value that you have provided me over the years."

    Hello jbrenner,
The Estate tax is a repugnant theft by our government. Often it destroys family business' and it is often not even on money that came in to the family. It is often simply an appreciation of property value. When property values increase the states get their increasing property taxes along the way, but that is not punitive enough for the Feds. Also the value of businesses have been increased through hard work on the parts of not only the legal owner but the family members that contribute, like family farms. No actual money may have accumulated, but the value of the assets have increased by their improvement. When the government comes in and demands cash the business or family does not have, they must often sell off the assets and dissolve the business, leaving the family survivors out in the cold and without a job. The supporting businesses, suppliers and local economy is also adversely effected.
This could happen to my company just as easily as to a family farm. I have two younger siblings working here and I have made provision for them in my will.
    Regards,
    O.A.

How about the fortunes made by the corporatocracy looters? They were crerated through suppressed competition and "gifts" from government purchased through corruption of public servants. imo, its even more vital that those backroom deals be destroyed before protecting their accumulated loot from taxation. (No, I am not in favor of any involuntary mandatory taxation;^)

They already tax every cent you manage to hold on to multiple times. This one last screw job after you die should go. But as you said, this administration would veto it in a heartbeat, even if it made it through congress.
