"...a lot of them[democratic mayors of large cities] talked about pre-K, a lot of them talked about early childhood education as one of the breakthrough things we have to do to change the dynamics, a lot of them talked about their growing poverty levels and how it was undermining the future of their cities. So I think there was a really organic unity among all of us of the fact that this is the issue of our times. Fighting inequality is the mission of our times...”

When it comes to pre k indocrination, particularly aimed at unwed mothers, check out a book I recently have read: Education for death, the making of the nazi by Gregor Ziemer from 1941. The similarities are disturbing. Read it for yourself & decide.

Let's see here, earning (though not specifically mentioned) inequality is a big problem. Let's begin to solve it by getting babies into our schooling by essentially offering free child-care, to what we'll now call middle-class mothers (used to be called low income, but whoa, whoa hurt feelings but really, we don't want to tell everyone how many previous middle class are now poor because of us) then teach the children our propaganda so that the children can go home and teach the parents, that everything is unfair. Everyone deserves by virtue of being alive, more money, and the only way to do it is for the government to steal it from the wealthy misers that won't give it you on their own. And if you have more babies you can't afford, don't worry, we'll steal more for you.

The only actual issue they mention, though, is Pre-K. My understanding is formal instruction doesn't provide much benefit even to kids under 6, if the parents are involved. So it makes sense to expand it for needy people. But I don't see the point in making it universal. ("That's the gov't's master plan to indoctrinate kids!!" is laughable.)

I don't see the progressive movement sweeping the nation. I like to think the pendulum is swinging back and forth, with people not realizing they're looking for libertarian.

I am enjoying your word choices in this comment-but I have gone through the system with my children and see strong connections. so-let's take headstart-you are strapped. headstart provides daycare with an education twist! you jump on it-it's cheaper than home daycare-it's subsidized! by the 6th grade, your child is eating out of the progressive hand. sigh. watch with your own children cg, you will see it.
    merry christmas
