Three times the legal limit, 2 dead, 1 paralyzed. Mommy and Daddy sned him off to 450K/yr "rehab". One wonders why a 16yo would need "rehab" in the first place. I would say maybe they should have put that parents on trial with him?

Juvenile law is based on the assumption that minors are not responsible for their actions - otherwise we would let them sign contracts, join the Army, drink alcohol, and vote - simultaneously, should they choose it...

It is not that he received some "special" consideration, but that EVERYONE should enjoy the same opportunities. The tragedy is that you need to have millions of dollars in disposable income in order to meet the government on its own terms. Every child offender should be treated so justly.

Mike, as soon as you start doing "adult" things like driving, drinking and killing, I have to throw the "Juvenile" out of the equation. This kid killed 2 people and paralyzed a third, and is getting off with it. I find that to be ridiculous and a travesty. Robert Heinlein had a good discussion of "Juvenile Delinquency" in Starship Troopers, which I think was pretty accurate. There should be no such thing. If you are olde enough to step into the adult world, then you are old enough for all of it. That is the problem with the whole juvenile system, it assumes they don't know any better. Then why are they allowed to do it?
