I sell light bulbs at my store. We sold relatively few 100 watt light bulbs until they were banned. I wonder what other unintended consequences there will be.
Let's not forget their need to tell us how many gallons of water your toilet can use as well. You just have to love how they say we have to get rid of incandescent bulbs cause they are bad for the environment. However, if you break a CFL in your house you need to evacuate your house. There is enough mercury in a CFL to contaminate nearly 1,000 gallons of water. Environmental craziness.
I was talking to someone this morning about how my little over/under washer/dryer unit couldn't get even a small load of clothes dry without drying for 3 or 4 cycles. He remembered hearing that the wattage of washer/dryers had been lowered to conserve energy. Dunno how true that is, but it fits.
Exactly! I've been amazed that no member of Congress had the guts to stand up and say what idiocy it is to ban the old bulbs and promote bulbs that are inherently bad for the environment?! Personally I won't buy them. We just bought a couple dozen of the old incandescent 60 watts and I plan to buy an LED bulb or 2 each time I go shopping, so we can afford to convert. Within a year, we should be converted to LEDs and not have to buy any more bulbs for a long time.. I was thinking about doing this anyway, but the ban forced me to do it sooner... Maybe if the government had stayed out of the market these alternative bulbs would have become cheaper sooner? If there wasn't demand for their bulbs manufacturers would have been forced to find ways to produce and sell them cheaper.. Now, with a 'forced' demand all of these other bulbs will take much longer to come down in price... Once again the govt screws the average person by the unintended consequences of their great benevolence and care for us...
You are AMAZED...that NO member of CONGRESS...had the GUTS to STAND UP.... OMG! I would BE amazed if even ONE member of CONGRESS had the stones to stand up to ANY of the idiocy that continues to go down! Sheesh!!!!
LOL, that's fair.. you're right. I'm showing the eternal optimism side of my personality. Some part of me hopes that some semblance of reason and intelligence would be shown by our so-called leaders... But alas, when I really think about it, I know that is not likely.
I recall a case a few decades ago when seat belt laws were sweeping the country where a state legislature proposed mandatory seat belts… for motorcycles. Nobody took them seriously - thought it was some sort of joke - until the law passed the house!
Motorcyclists got active in a hurry, pointing out to senators that when a motorcycle flips, the last thing you want is to be strapped to 800 pounds of hot, tumbling metal.
The bill died.
The idiocy that permits proposals like mandatory motorcycle seat belts gets promoted, and eventually winds up in Congress where people apparently forget that they are not omniscient. Every law has unintended consequences - some benign, some malignant (like Obamacare). But for some reason (female voters) the majority of American voters now vote for the person they "feel" best about - regardless of whether they're an idiot.
Good point. I wonder how far this will go. I think if I wanted to start a revolt I would tell people the government wanted to limit their time on Facebook and Twitter. That should get their attention.
Banning lightbulbs is absurd. I read and agreed with most of Al Gore's book twenty years ago. He said it's a mystery why people still use incandescents most the time when there are CFs. Now there are LEDs, which are even better. I agree with Gore 100%. I haven't bought incandescent in twenty years, but it's supposed to be a free country. I have one application for which I might need incandescent, and I may have to get it from the black market. We already have black market for drugs, sex, and labor that accounts for a huge chunk of our economy. Adding another thing is no big deal, I guess. It's really asinine though.
Here is a manufacturer that makes, and ships, all the banned bulbs legally:

Women-bashing comes after the appetizers.
