Did any MSM outlet cover this? Are you affected? If you're drawing benefits, you may be among the 129k who'll be getting a letter in the mail. Oh, Happy New Year ~ The Obama's.
In the case of one of my shooting buddies, he is a mid level quadriplegic and has extreme difficulty writing with a pen, and also manually keeping a checkbook ledger. He is not incompetent and has no mental impairment. He just can't write checks to pay his bills.
A couple years ago he was in the hospital for his annual evaluation, a annual checkup that all us paras and quads get to keep up with specific problems we can have. In the course of the occupational exam he was asked how he was dealing with doing his finances since he'd lost his wife the year before. He admitted it was difficult and inquired about his daughter being put on his bank account and helping him. The doctor said he'd take care of everything and oh, by the way, do you have guns in the house?
He admitted he did and inside of two weeks he received that letter and 48 hours later the sheriff deputies knocked on his door to take procession of his FOID card and were going to take his guns, ammo, powder and anything related to firearms. He had no choice but to comply, except the deputy allowed him to call me and my son and I ran over and picked up his guns.
He has been fighting this but so far there is nothing he has been able to do to reverse this injustice. I have his guns and stuff in one of my safes and he knows that anytime he wants to go shooting, all he has to do is to call me, but it's sucked the life out of him.
All of us quads and paras who suffer any dysfunction are on guard about what we tell our docs at the VA now since some of them (mine is one) have very strong anti gun feelings and are making the elimination of vets guns a life goal.
A bill to overturn the reporting of this data to NICS and other agencies have been moved from the house to the Senate Four times, but Harry Reid refuses to allow it to move to a vote.
