What a ridiculously misleading headline! The sheriff simply said that A&E wouldn't get special cooperation from his department. The headline makes it sound like he banned them from the town, which he has no legal authority to do.
I find the ole guy funny. I accept who he is. I do not have a lot of the same beliefs, and certainly do not think people will go to Hell, if there is one, for anything other than serious acts against their God. Who should get sent somewhere are the commie ACLU, stupid TV management who pimp for Marxist politicians, and judges who have allowed PC behavior to stifle free speech. Those are what offend me personally. Robinson expressed what he was asked about, his religion. He personally attacked no one. He has a right to believe and to speak, or none of us do. If the Muslims can close a street in NYC with their rears in the air to worship, which I find offensive, why is no one ticked about that? When Miley Cyrus went Madonna, I switched channels and chalked the network scheduling up to stupid leadership. When Obama comes on to "community organize" us into Marxism, I find that offensive, and turn off the TV, while cursing. A&E denied their thinking viewers that same option, so they could be PC.. And while we are at it, what did they do with "Longmire", one of the best shows they did run?
I'm like our friend Robertson; I accept whatever other people like to do as long as it doesn't hurt someone else. My brother was gay and I accepted him and his friends but their life style was not mine.
Sorry, but there is no such thing as LGBT's Official view. Nobody speaks for me except me, and that includes GLAAD or anyone else. I'm not sure which group started all this bullshit but they never asked my permission and on this issue I disagree with them wholeheartedly. That's happened before and I've written some pretty strongly worded emails to a couple of gay and lesbian advocacy groups.
I've never seen the show, but wasn't offended either. Thanks for speaking out. I know a lot of gay and lesbian people who simply go to work and live their lives everyday not looking for a battle and not wearing their sexuality on their sleeves. I think straight people are often guilty of lumping the LGBT community into one group as well and stereotyping, which is equally wrong. Your comments were thoughtful and appreciated.
How long is this flack going to last? Robert- son's speech was not offensive to anyone who read it closely, and A&E can do what it wants. So many other really important things going on than this TV tidbit. Sheesh!!
Freedom of speech was never revoked and Phil Robertson's rights have not been infringed. A&E can do as they please with their network.
That being said: 1) I'm a gay man. 2) I've never watched Duck Dynasty although I was aware of it. 3) I read the GQ piece and several reports about the entire brouhahaha. I also watched an interesting video on IamSecond about him and he seems like a very nice and sincere man. 4) I was not offended by anything Phil Robertson said in the GQ interview. 5) I think A&E made a very bad choice and if they have any brains at all they'll make a high-profile reversal of their decision.
