Sure, It’s Barbie. But This One’s Got a Controversial Feature That’s Got Parents Really Creeped Out.

this is some creepy stuff...big brother carried in a child's hands, strangers shaping children's minds/thoughts straight from the cloud. How anyone, particularly Mattel, think this is a good idea is beyond frightening.

Whats next, an update/patch where a kid whispers her secrets to Barbie - then the police come to take mommy/daddy away for swatting their backside or speaking against government policies?

    So ..... don't buy it.
Free will, free market, feedback-poor sales, product changes.
Don't buy anything you don't approve of just because your child wants to be fashionable.
    Consumerism .... Yechh!

I wasn't railing against the product or saying anyone should or shouldn't buy it. I was pointing out a stealthy intrusion into individual privacy by way of a popular child's toy.

Nothing wrong with consumerism. There is something wrong with blind consumerism. Even so, its your right to wrap the noose around your own neck...not mine, right?

Twelve years ago I was working on a device that had a camera pointed at the user at all times. We had to put a shudder that would drop in front of the lens when the camera was off b/c the company developing it thought no one would tolerate a camera staring right at you all day, even if it had an LED indicator.

In twelve more years, people will find it quaint that found it creepy. People will have microphones running processing every word all the time in case they have a question to ask their computer.

Privacy is gone, and that is dangerous.

when one could be assured the information would stay in the hands of a company, I trusted that much more. For instance my local grocery store having a savings card. But the courts have backed the government's intrusion into the privacy of its citizens. so, yes, it's creepy.
