The comments are terrifying, not the story

The level of vitriol shown in the commentary after this article is truly scary. I couldn't even get thru it all, but here are examples that particularly got me:

"Let me guess - white man with a gun shooting people will probably be arrested without being killed. I mean, c'mon, he's just a well regulated militia, right? Taking advantage of his 2nd Amendment rights on a beautiful day."

"Just another NRA hero standing his ground."

"Nobody is safe in this damned country any more because of the lunatic gun freaks roaming the streets with the blessing of the NRA and the blood-soaked second Amendment, God's curse on the United States."

and, the one that caused me to give up:

" every ammosexual is cumming their pants right now"

The determination not to think is astounding and exhausting.

Typical. Our culture has made the average citizen so afraid of "guns" that they can't stand the mention of them, much less the sight of them, even less the use of them. ...Until they need them.

The Huff Post... not exactly a gathering place of objective critical thinking. They would like to trust the police to protect them. Of course, in the real world the police always arrive after the fact, but just in time to stretch out the yellow tape...

    Every day it gets worse.
Any step forward against tyranny is accompanied by 3 leaps backward toward dictatorship by politicians. Local pols justify it because they are following the path laid out for them that they must follow to get federal money. It doesn't matter that the path has already been shown to be a failure and leads over a cliff to destruction. All that matters is that it doesn't happen until after the next election.

The comment that is most revealing to me was:
"They'd just have a huge free-for-all shoot-out, where the last guy alive gets to tell the story."

If she'd used her brain, she'd know that is exactly what governments have done in every war to cover up the crimes of the winners.
No, she wants to trust governments for her safety instead of using the tools that make it possible to protect herself.
