“We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism.” ~ Nikita Khrushchev, 1959

Khrushchev was only a mouthpiece. The plan was Marx's and all his fellow travelers'. Humanity's most polarizing problem is not reducible to one-liners. I'd like to see an intelligent discussion of how ideas spread and how this most perncious of ideas, enslaving some for the sake of others, could get such a hold on minds and hearts.

It took Rand several books for that autopsy. We need new memes that speak to the masses who think socialism is just fine. Let's find or write such a compact "handbook for dummies" without tainting it with today's "isms". Surely the Gulch is populated with talented writers equal to this task.

No! If Khrushchev was right, the Gulch wouldn't exist. Don't forget there are 20,000 of us just here!

Allosaurus, how many don't care and how many just don't know what to do? If there was a solution, I could gather together hundreds of people to do what was needed tomorrow.

My birth family was rotten, Ed, but my husband and 2 kids are terrific. It's great to have a second chance to make a good family

I remember being taught in the public school system in Massachusetts in the 1960's that the twain shall meet in the middle. Russia will become more capitalistic and free and America will become more socialistic and controlled such that the two will be identical.

That always bothered me. One of the many reasons I resolved to leave the east and go west - yes, as a young man. But now it's everywhere.

Exactly. Right after our economy collapses, the "liberated" without means will demand the last bit from those still toiling.

It's about educating the future generations. It's a multigenerational process as was getting to the current collectivist pop philosophy that drive our election results.

Look at what ARI (http://aynrand.org) is doing with their books for students and teachers' guides free programs. Look at what The Undercurrent is doing in reaching students.

Look at what Alex Epstein is doing with his book and lecturing with his Moral Case for Fossil Fuel. Read it, learn the arguments, if you agree, tell everyone you know. Alex has done a brilliant job of educating himself and presenting a most clear and rational case for the facts of this matter.

Be part of the solution rather than just shouting at the dark.

Allow me to put in a word of cheer. "This, too, shall pass" is how it's worded. "Change is the only permanent thing" is another. However, I offer you a more tactile metaphor (this one's for Thor): The world is like a waterbed; push down in one place, someplace else goes up. We've gone down, China has gone up. We have sludgy socialism coalescing into the crud of communism, and China and Russia have millionaires busting out all over. Waterbed! We don't need to take any of it too seriously.

Great post. Liberals can look right at this and still be in denial. It takes away from their fairness utopia model that exists in their brain.

I remember watching that on the news. At the time it just seemed crazy. Now? Not so much.

Get off sheeple life support and stop slipping away. Altogether now.
    Altogether?
    Hey, anyone listening out there?
Seems my voice can only echo off the walls of the Gulch.
Too many people do not care.
    They. Just. Don't. Care.
