My amazing Objectivist Vacation

I just returned from an awesome and amazing Objectivist Vacation. I'll tell you about mine, then you say what your idea of an Objectivist Vacation is.

I had the best vacation. I visited the Hallings, who are marvelous hosts. We had great food (One of the places we ate the Sushi was so fresh I'm sure it was swimming not 5 minutes before it was on the plate), great conversations and in my book just a darn good time. Some sightseeing, some sup boarding, lots of whale watching and meeting people of all over the world, though North America was the predominant origin. It was the most marvelous experience to spend a week talking with rational, logical people.

There were no shades of gray. A is A. I wish db had been my philosophy professor in college. He turns a muddled gray mass into coherent, logical explanations. Kh had me check a premise. It was AWESOME!! The total immersion into rational thought and how right it is was really brought home to me when I was returning home. The sudden onslaught of illogical and incompetent was like a physical blow it was so stunning. An example; my flight from Denver to Missoula was delayed, then we finally boarded and proceeded to the deice station where me sat for over an hour because the weather deteriorated. They were required to return us to the gate and let us deplane if we choose, but we had to remain close.

The girl in the seat next to me on this little Tinker Toy airplane that was only slightly larger than my guitar and stuffed with people and I both decided to get off and use the restroom. The only bathroom anywhere near our gate had barricades put up by the cleaning staff. The girl asked the cleaning lady where the next closest bathroom was, and she indicated a long way off. I asked if we could use the bathroom here anyway because the other was to far from our gate. She just gave me the typical blankout stare and said it's closed. I asked her to see if whoever was inside cleaning would let us in and she said no and walked off drinking her soda. I looked at the girl and said “I hate incompetent people” moved the barricades aside and she followed me inside, where there was no one.

It turned out just as we walked out they were calling us to reboard.

Everyone was in their seats, the doors closed they tell us we have to go deice again, then the Captain comes out of the cockpit. “Ladies and gentlemen. The weather has deteriorated again. The crew and I are willing but our dispatch says that since we would have to go back an deice after this band of snow the crew will be over hours, the flight is cancelled. Sorry.” If only I had known about the cancellation a few hours earlier.

Winterwind and CyberWizard drove through the snow storm to come visit me at the airport between flights. We were having a wonderful time and I was loving the conversation until it was time to get to the other (of course) end of the airport for my flight to nowhere.

Despite any travel woes, lack of sleep in airports (I think the total is close to 3 days no sleep in the airport) I had the best time with wonderful Objectivists. The moral of my story is, that when you spend some time around rational, thinking human beings, it is glaring, shocking and stunning to realize what we are surrounded with on a day to day basis. Patricia in Joe vs the Volcano: “My father says that almost the whole world is asleep. Everybody you know. Everybody you see. Everybody you talk to. He says that only a few people are awake and they live in a state of constant total amazement. “

What does your amazing Objectivist vacation look like?

Thanks for sharing. As I read this I realized that I have cultivated my own small, close group of friends who are pretty good thinkers. All of my friends have a good grip on critical thinking. I can't suffer fools anymore...too taxing for me.

lol Then we could have Republican politicians, less liberty, but we'd have equal ability to be acrimonious without actually accomplishing anything; if that's the goal it's a horse apiece.

That means not particpating in the political process, which means not supporting liberty.

*I can't explain it to you, though, if you carry on denying A=A.* I do not mean that last sentence. I'm wrote to illustrate how hollow that epithet is unless I actually explain what contradictory claims you're supporting.

I do not think you're asserting contradictory claims. I think you just disagree on whether working with elected official at all is a lost cause. I say not working with my elected officials means more power to the Republicans, which is a worse outcome than doing nothing.

You'll TAKE "any kind of liberty you can get"... yes BY VOTING IT AWAY TO LIBERALS!
Who is paying you to spend time in here? You are NOT on the side of liberty so don't even try to pretend to be.
If you voted for Obama TWICE...raised money for him...think Hillary is a good idea, then you need to find somewhere else to hang out. You are ANTI-GULCH. GO!

CG if you want liberty may I suggest that you start by not raising money for, campaigning for or voting for clinton. That would also include the rest of the leftist, progressive collectivist you have supported in the past. They are anti-liberty. A is not A with you.

"It is not free at least de jure, but there is a lot of de facto freedom."
I'm excited by the notion of a Gulch, so I would be very interested in a post on de facto freedom. I'm not belittling it at all. I'll take any kind of liberty I can get. The first "Gulch" will need to accept some compromised "de facto" form of liberty. So this is an important issue.

I am no longer able to do much traveling, but rather than envy, I felt a powerful joyous sensation. Imagine actually interacting as an Objectivist with Objectivists. Glorious. Pirate was able to experience what the world could be and should be like, for a brief while.

K and db should add that RMP was a wonderful guest and made it easy to host her. Like RMP we deal with all sorts of irrational or just plain non-thinking people and it is always a joy to get to talk with thinking, rational people.

As you know, it is only one string (low E) that needs to be lowered, but I hesitate too. I don't need to do it on the go because I do not perform for others, so when I practice one drop D song I tend to practice a few others while I'm at it. I hate constant tuning almost as much as re-stringing. That said; I hate to play out of tune worse and although I have several tuners I really like my micro head-stock tuner for on the go quick adjustments. http://www.guitarcenter.com/D-Addario-Pl...

It's so incredible to have face to face conversations with people who really are present in the real world. And to have a premise checked. It's good to know when A isn't quite equalling A.
The photo is wonderful. Prudie is such a cutie pie! Plus you had two other snuggle buddies. :-)
I must say I'd love to have been in your shoes, well flip flops, really. Except for the meet up with the boulder... ;-)
So happy for you RMP, and the Hallings for being such gracious and rational hosts!

This is not paradise. It is not free at least de jure, but there is a lot of de facto freedom.
