INTRODUCING: “The Gulch: Best of”

Posts have a life cycle. You post, it gets voted on, other members comment on it, it makes it to the “Hot” list, the sky opens, all is well in the world, and then… it goes away.

Never to be seen again.

Comments too. Your wit slays them all, everyone is ROTFLOL, you break the site record for most upvotes on a comment, and then… it disappears into oblivion.

Until now.

Introducing, “The Gulch: Best of”, where great posts and comments go to live-on... forever.

Here’s the catch…

While everyone can see “Best of” category posts, only Gulch Producers can submit them. And, they can't submit they're own stuff.

So, Gulch Producers…

Bring it.

- - - -

How it works:

1. Find an awesome “Self” post or comment. *
2. Click the “Best of...” link located right underneath the post or comment (see screenshots attached to this post).
3. Add a descriptive title (e.g. “Eudaimonia sheds light on the meaning of life”).
4. Add a note telling everyone why the content is “Best of” material (e.g. “I laughed so hard, I cried.”)
5. Submit it.

* What’s a “Self” post?
A self post is post that does not link outside of Galt’s Gulch Online. It could be a great story, or a great question, as long as it doesn’t like out, it’s eligible.

A comment is… uhm… a comment. :S

On posts, there's also s "Save" button right next the "Best of..." button. "Save" will store the post in your own personal "Saved" list accessible by clicking on your membername in the upper-right hand corner

Nice idea, helps to sort through things, and marks the ones you want to go back to sometime. The Obama Tree thing was a good example.

you're not going to ask what do I think of being hidden? ok. Yes. the new search feature has been very fun. I tried obscure references and it picked them up. I have wanted this feature for lifetimes. :)

"Government control of the economy, no matter in whose behalf, has been the source of all the evils in our industrial history—and the solution is laissez-faire capitalism, i.e., the abolition of any and all forms of government intervention in production and trade, the separation of State and Economics, in the same way and for the same reasons as the separation of Church and State." -Ayn Rand, "Notes On The History Of American Free Enterprise" in Capitalism the Unknown Ideal

"Judge Narragansett... sat at a table, and the light of his lamp fell on the copy of an ancient document. He had marked and crossed out the contradictions in its statements that had once been the cause of its destruction. He was now adding a new clause to its pages: 'Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of production and trade …'" - Atlas Shrugged

Scott, if you submitted that last "RE:" as a separate comment, I would have clicked "best of...".

    Sorry, K, it was funny.

RE: "where is the page where I can see what people have voted on?"
There's no voting required for something to be added to "Best of." There's just you, Gulch Producers, adding stuff to "Best of" as you see fit.

In the end, it's a category like any other - so you can get to it from the Categories drop down. "The Gulch: Best of" - http://www.galtsgulchonline.com/g/the-gu...

RE: "why can't I vote "best of" on posts?"
You don't "vote." You just click on "Best of..." right underneath the post title or comment. Look right underneath this comment. See "Best of..." ?

RE: "I'm stopping at interstate restrooms here picking up stuff."
    That's great. Thanks for sharing.
