... so these liberal idiots would get a real taste of what they are voting for before it becomes permanent. I'd like to think that not all of them are beyond rehabilitation and reintroduction to reality.

But maybe I'm just too idealistic...

    "Be careful what you wish for..." comes to mind. Also "A fool and his money..." I get the feeling that the right to vote should be tied to a few tax returns. If one has not had to hold a job and pay the protection racket... Is it too late? Can you teach an old statist a new trick? Are we done? Stick a fork in us...

      I would bring to mind that originally, this was a large portion of the reason for the 3/5th's compromise. Originally, the Founders intended for only landowners - not even the general populace - to vote and that their vote was a vote for the household in general. It should also be noted that income taxes and wealth redistribution really didn't start until the early 1900's with Wilson - a far cry from our Founders' intentions.

      If you want to talk about doing things right, I'd advocate that we go back to the original design and divest ourselves of all these bolt-on programs. In trade for getting rid of corporate income taxes, do away with SS - a cost and a revenue both gone. In trade for lowering private income taxes, let's get rid of government subsidies. Yeah, its probably a long shot, but...

    When I was in grad school and not on my parents' insurance, I took out a health insurance policy through Assurant/Fortis. I wasn't going to ask someone else to pay if I should get sick. The premium was cheap b/c I was young and healthy, and the deductible was several thousand. I never made a claim on that policy.

    It would never have occurred to me to protest insuring against an obvious peril.
