Government Bullies: Rand Paul Book review, Nov. 2013

Political Science/Government, 262 pgs. ISBN 978-1-4555-2275-0.

Over the years, you occasionally hear a story that defies common sense and exemplifies a government gone wild, abusing and exceeding its power while destroying the lives of everyday Americans. Well, that is the way it used to be anyway. Now it seems there is an avalanche of stories with a frequency that causes most to become insensitive, numb to the constant drone. In this book, Senator Paul, pulls together many of the most egregious cases of unfair abuse to citizens from government bureaucrats and agencies that apparently wish to make examples of people and demonstrate their arbitrary unfettered power. The oppression, abuse and abject tyranny perpetrated by multiple agencies over the years brought to your attention, will enrage all but the most progressive, statist, totalitarians among us. With each story compiled and documented in this work of violations of citizen’s rights your outrage grows. It is plain for all to see how an ever growing big government creates ever growing opportunities for unchecked bureaucratic tyranny. It allows them to demonstrate the old maxim that “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” And that is exactly the way these agencies operate. There is no accountability. The bureaucrats make and enforce laws absent right, checks or balance.

From the EPA treatment of the Sackett’s, to the TSA’s numerous violations (including events pertaining to detaining the Senator himself) as well as many other accounts of federal agencies running roughshod over the constitutional rights of innocent Americans, the Senator fills the pages with recent stories that every liberty loving American will find appalling. The examples in this book, though just a small sample, are irrefutable arguments proving the tyrannical nature of our bloated big government. It is also clear evidence that our federal agencies are in the business of violating the constitution for political, ideological advantage.

In Senator Paul’s words “…To the degree that we must have government, it should be to help us, not hurt us.

Freedom can often be a vague term. But when we lose it, the definition becomes concrete…. Our Constitution gives the federal government guidelines that are supposed to protect us from the government…. The proper constitutional order must be restored, so that America is governed once again as the Founding Fathers intended.
I will keep fighting to protect the freedoms that belong to all American citizens as our birthright. I hope you’ll join me.”

With a forward by Congressman Ron Paul, it is an easy read, well documented, and speaks well of the Senator.

If you are interested in the Senator, political science, or support property rights and can afford to gamble with your blood pressure this is for you.

Since this book was written we’ve learned of an IRS scandal, where patriot groups, et al. were targeted for political ideology and experienced a disastrous health care plan rollout sold on promises the bureaucrats have nullified by writing de facto law, as well as a host of other abuses! So many additional scandalous abuses have recently been revealed to the public one must wonder the magnitude of what has not been revealed. Senator Paul could easily write a new chapter; perhaps a new volume…

Respectfully,
O.A.

I have lived long enough to see that this is a trend, a transition to overbearing power. It wasn't like this when I was a kid - not even close. It has been a process slow enough that most haven't noticed. But, there's no denying that they have ratcheted down liberty and freedom. No doubt.

Yes....I know... I agree that we are already there...but few recognize it. I think we've just hit the crest of the roller coaster ride that feels like flight (for some), for a split second, right before the plunge with rapidly increasing downward speed and everybody starts screaming. I don't think the end of this ride will have a smooth, quick stop with sighs of relief and laughter either. The American Free Fall.... wanna buy a ticket?

The Senate has invoked the 'nuclear option.' We know what Rand Paul thinks. On this day, we can only imagine what John Kennedy would have thought of this action. An occasional re-reading of the intent of the "Founding Fathers" should be suggested for our esteemed Senators.

The truly sad part is that it's not just the schools. It is in our whole society. It started in the 70's with the teachers and has overtaken everything in our lives.
The more they take our freedoms and the fact that political correction embodies our lives the closer to socialism or communism we come and the more we it becomes a part of our lives.
This isn't something that has just happened. It started with President Wilson and has grown ever since. We're noticing it now because it's running rampant with this President.

The last paragraph makes me hopeful that the time is ripe for libertarian reforms.

...do not notice, do not question, do not judge.... (Communist montra.....we're well on our way with all these non thinkers, non questioners, non judgers we're surrounded with.)
It's not just the school administrators....it's the whole public school system....they all go along with it to preserve their pensions. I wonder often how many lines they'll cross before a light bulb goes off and reality hits them in the face.

The sad part is many people have become so used to the government being all encompassing and all powerful that they don't even recognize 'abuse' when they see it. How many times do we see stories in the media of kids kicked out of school for a finger gun or some other such nonsense and in a day it's forgotten. No one says "Hey! WTF! why is the school / administration being so stupid".. or they do but are quickly drowned out by those saying it's all about safety and teaching the right values. The examples of over reach of authority are beyond counting today and people have been dumbed down and intimidated enough that they do not question.

OA, this book is inspiring the Hank Rangar Series. I was particularly laying awake at night over the EPA over-reach. quite the eye-opener. Thanks for your thoughts
