Genetically modified mosquitoes to prevent disease in Florida

Oxitec has conducted initial tests in Brazil and the Cayman Islands, both of which were successful enough that the countries are planning larger deployments of GMO mosquitoes. If approved by the FDA, Oxitec could release the bugs this spring in southern Florida.

    Check out side effects? Environmental possibilities? What species can be affected adversely? I don't trust the gov. to do a good job, after all, they are all politicians whether they care to admit it or not.

    I have heard about this same strategy to be used for Gypsy Moths. Never heard if it was tried, or effective.

    Live in the Dom. Rep. and they need to come up with a mosquito to combat the chikungunya virus. Have had it for 3 months and most painful thing I've ever experienced including 2 spine operations on all 5 lumbars.

    I wish they'd send some those mosquitoes down my way. The Dengue was bad this last year.

    Those illusive anonymous "researchers" keep embarassing themselves. In a few years the skeeter populations will have dropped and this company will get all the credit from "researchers" when it's mostly due to cooler temps.
