I'm trying to watch the State of the Union address. Obama is an embarrassment.

I generally can't stand to listen to Obama's falsities, but after reading through all the comments on this thread and the shared vitriole of those who did put themselves through the entire speech, I went and listened to it with the cold, clinical curiosity of an anthropologist.

What a masterfully crafted piece of work this was, wrapped in hypocrisy and engineered on the Big Lie model of spinning assertions that turn black into white.

No way that O wrote this all by himself. His most cunning speechwriters concocted this collage of meme distortion to strike every chord, massage every constituency. Like the good puppet that he is, O delivered it with all the nuances bouncing between folksy and intimidating.

His coterie in the background started every applause cycle and standing ovation right on cue. The man's nerve is astonishing; only a psychopath could pull that off.

With a perfectly straight face he announces an end to torture and to Gitmo, as though those had been casual actions with no mark on America's reputation. Now I just wonder when the Congress will get the gonads to indict him for breaking faith with the Constitution, along with Bush and Cheney and their crimes against humanity..

I have very little faith in Congress. The next 2 years are going to be difficult. I'm guessing Obama will follow thru on his veto threats and use Executive Orders and Agency regulations to do as he pleases. Hope I'm wrong.

Representative government works if enough of the constituents make a row and let their Congresscritters know what the "will of the people" is on all those issues. Besides commiserating with our like-minded fellows here, we need to send our objections to our reps and senators. Write, petition, collar them in person. Remind them (politely, of course) that they are our servants, not our rulers. Don't accept their boilerplate excuses. And keep educating our fellow citizens (nicely, of course) about the consequences of their voting choices.

I think the point was he is going to do whatever he wants because he didn't have to worry about elections
The question is will we stop him?

He is definitely going to do whatever he wants. I keep thinking the Democrats have to stop him. This approach got them stomped in the mid term elections and could hurt them even beyond 2016.

I don't understand why the DNC doesn't see it coming in '16. They took a whupping at midterms. What is it that keeps them from seeing the writing on the wall. Is the delusion that Barry suffers from catching and they all have it?

The speech was like reading Atlas Shrugged, only the bad parts. Did not like the idea of our children in government care from day one. There were so many freedoms that he addressed to be diminished, decreased and modified. His vision is of a state run life. The people have spoken last election cycle. Hope the newbies’ do the job.

I hope so too but I have less faith in the Republican leadership every day.

I no longer believe that there is any Republican "leadership" - since they took the high road and, to be responsible, kept the government open during the last "crisis". Think about Brownian motion: all those atoms, just moving around randomly, bumping into each other, never coming close to each other....it's my current visual idea of the GOP.

I worked about 16 hours yesterday. Near the end of that work I had this speech streaming on the laptop while I worked on my workstation. I was tired, drained. I worked on into the night to try to earn enough for my kids' futures, and perhaps buy something nice for my family. As the speech went on I noticed more and more talk of race, equality, etc…lots of passion and cheers. I was pretty tired...and that didn’t help. I had the speech on because I was waiting to see if he was going to mention his plan to do away with the tax benefits of the 529 plans. This is big news in my office. He didn’t. He just hinted about it and spoke in vague reference with “…people working hard to afford college…blah, blah, blah…” I figure he’ll flesh out the details of ruining the college plans of hard-working middle-class families in the next few weeks.

With free college why would you need a 529?...C'mon, he's doing you a great service. (gag)... So, yes he will try to tax it...and the lame republican won't fight it probably either.

The republicans don't listen to the message from the American people. Why did they pass obummer's budget? They just didn't get the message sent in the mid terms.

I went to bed early while the Liar-In-Chief was lying.
I would not have watched Mr. Potatohead anyway, but the reason I went to bed early was to get to an early appointment way far on the other side of Birmingham.
I had a broken tooth so infected and otherwise messed up that my regular dentist just could not pull it.
So he referred me to an Alabama Oral &; Facial Surgery specialized tooth extractor of the extraordinaire kind.
This was all more real coming out of my mouth than anything that could ever come out of King Barry's.
Pain killers have kicked in. Think I'll take a nap.
    All whoozy-doozy here!

What is never mentioned is the real reason why the economy is making at least small gains, in SPITE of the obstacles.
In anticipation of obama's term being almost over. Similar to one of the major reasons things tanked as bad as they did. In anticipation of him taking office.

Most of the numbers are pure lies. If the labor participation was the same as when he took office unemployment would be 10%. Some of the estimated numbers used to calculate GDP were changed to give a positive outcome. The economy is not improving.

Some one of his staff needs to lock him in the Oval Office with Surround Sound and force feed him all three parts of Atlas Shrugged along with the Prophecy and America and 2016 by Denesh Desuza. If I was such a staff member I would lock him in with Hillary just for some added shock value.
