A Warning on Chinese goods

It's pretty clear that there needs to be some organization for auditing food safety. I would propose that it be similar to financial auditing, however, rather than a government entity - especially in the case of China where government corruption is worse than even here in the US (I know - hard to believe).

But 1/2 of ALL their food products failing safety inspections? Remind me not to eat the food. Or drink the water. Or heck, even visit.

    Again, it depends on time of year. Winter and springtime it is about 70% SA, 30% China, in the summertime and fall about 50% 50% US and China. But there's always a significant portion from China. And due to the variation, it is always mixed to try to dampen out the differences.

    What percentage was specifically from China? I'm trying to gauge risk.

    Also, they are taking frozen concentrate and reconstituting it (with water) for sale to grocery stores?

    One plant that I worked with (of 7, and I believe the other 6 also received this much) was using 40 totes (roughly 4'x4'x4') per day. Depending on season they came from Florida/California, South America, or China.

    I've got just a bit of exposure to the food industry as well, and can attest that orange juice concentrate comes from China (as well as South American countries). The differences in acid and viscosity cause quite a bit of difficulty in production.

    I work in the food service industry, and the US doesn't import general foodstuffs from China except really niche things - certainly not anything in enough quantity to cause a health scare here. Reason? Freight costs.

    Now if you live in Japan or that area of the Pacific or Asia, you should absolutely take notice.
