I've posted 3 photos below of a custom sterling ring that I did. One shows the ring in process so you can get a real understanding of the size of the rings - note the safety pin in the background - it's 1 1/2" long. The inside diameter of the rings is 1/8". The other 2 photos show the completed ring from 2 views.

I will make you a custom piece of chain maille: I usually do jewelry, but I can probably do something big like a bracer. I prefer to use small rings rather than large ones [jewelry, right?]
We will have to talk about:
what you want
what you can spend
what you want it made of [sterling, bronze, anodized aluminum, copper, steel, titanium.....and more]
exactly what you'd like it to look like [there are a zillion weaves]
when you want it
when I can get it to you
if you afford what you want

Please keep in mind, if ordering precious metals, that the price fluctuates both with the market and with what you've asked for.

I've never shipped a piece that the customer didn't first approve by photo. Maille is pretty durable, but you do get a year's warranty and the warning that anodized colors can be damaged; we might have to negotiate on those.

You can respond by PM or a post here on For Sale [or just in a post in the "Business" section of the site].

    Very cool stuff.

I used to have a buddy in college that made chain mail in class. He'd just sit and listen, and hook the rings together. He'd make the rings by chucking a long rod on a drill, and winding wire on it. Then, he'd cut the wire off, axially, and presto, a bunch of rings like cut lock washers.

This guy made a girl in college a chain mail bikini! They were both active SCA members.

The comment demands I ask the question - "Got any pics?"

I wish I did. She was in engineering school, but did not have two heads. If I had them, would be happy to share on the S&M section. :)

        Looked pretty much like this:

Ah, the Society for Creative Anachronism. I used to be a Battleguarder - similar to SCA, but using foam padded weapons. Real armor like this chain mail (way cool, BTW) was pretty rare, and insanely heavy in the mock battles we fought.

We used a nearby park near dusk with anywhere from a dozen to 40 people in melee at a time. There were people with bucklers (a small round arm shield) and pole arms, morning stars, lots with sword-and-board, some with two-handed weapons like great axes or claymores, and some with hybrid/fantasy weapons (double-headed swords like Darth Maul, etc.). Before we became a fixture there, the cops used to drive by, and some of their looks were priceless. We encouraged them to sample the weapons and join in, and then they let us be.

Tons of fun. Great cardio workout, some strategy and teamwork, and great creativity.

Great stuff! Wouldn't mind doing it today, but not sure who else is so crazy in their 40s.

We got into an argument about how good his helmet made out of a propane tank, would protect him. He keep egging me on to "...go ahead and hit him..." with a rattan long sword. I finally obliged, and thought his head was just going to come off and bounce across his backyard. Left a 6" long straight crease in the tank, and he was very quiet, with his head between his legs for about 45min. Very nice guy. Very polite, but this was a mistake in judgement for a budding mechanical engineer.

That guy did the rings the hard way - although, depending on how you value your time, it might work out ok. I think the work is too hard for the results - I buy rings from The Ring Lord and Urban Maille - and they've made a life's work of making the best rings possible. Do I want to do that, or do I want to make jewelry? Additionally, they carry inventory - excuse me, I meant INVENTORY. Rings in every gauge and size made out of every metal, even to different compositions of steel. One person couldn't possibly afford it.
and they're nice people to deal with - they hold quality of product, customer service, and giving value for value highly.
