An alternative interpretation comes from A Dictionary of Catch Phrases (Eric Partridge, 1986). Edward J. Flynn (1892-1953) was a New York City political boss who became a campaign manager for the Democratic party during FDR's presidency. Boss Flynn's "Democratic Party machine exercised absolute political control over the Bronx.... The candidates he backed were almost automatically 'in,' and he himself permanently so," Partridge comments.

Now we have the beginnings of a theory. "In like Flynn" starts as rhyming slang in New York, helped along by the prominence of Boss Flynn. NYC draftees spread it among the troops nationwide with the start of World War II. The phrase gets a boost when the well-publicized travails of Errol Flynn in 1942 give it a double meaning. But its innocent origin allows Cecil's mom to use it without being scandalized.

Just one thing. We have no evidence that "in like Flynn" was used anywhere prior to November 1942.

Pelosi doesn't cry as often (might be because her facelift was pulled too tight and her tear ducts are closed off, who knows?). Or could it be that B's hours in the tanning bed leaves him so warm that it's only sweat running down his face?

didn't know that one;;; Errol supposedly skated out
on a statutory rape case, somehow, and earned
the phrase that way -- as I heard, years ago. -- j

I think the "Boss Flynn" story of the D machine in the Bronx to be a more likely origin.

I wonder how many voted "present?" Enough of them and we could have ended up with Pelosi.

Boner is in like Flynn. The GOP is really in a sad state.

Finally a man with courage to stand up to the establishment. With his neck stuck out, wouldn't you think it makes it easy for others to block Bonehead? Almost anyone would be better.

I would love to see Boehner go. We need a few prominent Republicans to break ranks and this could get interesting.

The TanMan has to go, he is way to aligned with OBlamer to be effective and shows no willingness to be Conservative.
It will be the same ole same ole if he is re-elected. He may even block some Republican bills.

    that's good -- demonscats!

isn't it Louie Gohmert who's challenging Boehner?
he's a former judge and a favorite of Palin;;; might
    be a fine choice! -- j

It would be comical if Boehner falls just short of a majority and has to beg and bribe for a few votes. On second thought, if he fails, it would open the door for Trey Gowdy, who would be acceptable to everyone but Demonscats.
