This ZDNet article saddens me, even though I've seen this coming for a long, long time (hell, Bill Gates was blabbing about it when Windows was still a GUI overlay for MSDOS).

I like building and upgrading my own PCs. I like being able to run whatever OS I want. And I especially like being independent of "the Cloud".

Personally, I think this will be a stumbling block for innovation and competition....
