A sad example

People really need to talk to one another. This appears to have gone on so long that it is unlikely to end. This probably could have been stopped at the start had the people just pulled their curtains. Sheesh, people. Can't we be cordial to one another?

After this many years, no doubt. And probably too entrenched in the animosity to be ended amicably.

Ummm, no. People in general are so afraid of "strangers" [AKA neighbors] that they can't knock on each other's doors and have a polite conversation. My guess is that the person who asked him to turn the lights down for her dinner party didn't ASK politely, didn't say please or thank you - essentially didn't act like she was asking for a favor. He, on the other hand, went over the line, especially if it was one person, one time who asked him to turn the lights down. Since he is putting up signs against the city, I might guess that the original asker didn't ask HIM, they look legal action.

Robbie, you're right - it could have been stopped at the beginning. I also think that there is more going on than we are reading about.
