While the interminable, irrational, irresolute, war against drugs goes on decade after decade, the states and, inevitably, the federal government, will simply circumvent the on-going, multi-nefarious law enforcement efforts that we tolerate, because revenue potential will end up trumping every rational from national security to national health that's been trotted out to justify the colossal waste of lives and resources that's been expended over the last 100 some odd years.

When will we learn that you can't legislate morality and that personal behavior is not criminal behavior until someone else's person or property is threatened or damaged, and not in the hypothetical, but in fact? In that instance we have more than adequate legal remedies available to us.

The war on drugs is going to end eventually as government usurps and controls the business as they've already done with alcohol and gambling. So, let's get out now and stop the hypocrisy, use the revenue to reduce taxes, fill pot holes, and redeploy law enforcement to more pressing and legitimate missions.

It was much easier to get rid of Nixon... People unfortunately will do what they do and some will over-do it. Prohibition seems to exacerbate the problem... I do not know the answer. But what I do know is that I do not want to pay for support of someone in prison for self abuse. If they harm someone else then let the hammer fall!

also, addicts increase when economic opportunities are limited or barriers are too great. Also when lifestyle is idle-whether means or necessities acquired without work. Think opium trade of the late 1700s.

Thanks for posting this. Having been a front line soldier in this war I know that it's just a joke. It's just job security for the narcs and income for the agency, whether local, state or fed. The asset seizures total billions, probably trillions, every year that go into the governments coffers.

Being on the Vice President's Drug Task Force did look impressive on my resume when I worried about such things.
