Not unlike the secession petitions... Of course, the People are permitted to petition the government, but they can just decree a single no and that's it...
It would be, and somehow it would be poetic justice to have land once owned by the dotgov that is now a preserve for what America REALLY stands for... :-)
I would read the terms of sale really, REALLY carefully, tho... You know how upfront and honorable our dotgov is... wouldn't surprise me if there were some clause in there to steal it back once they got the money.
Mmm, in this area, not so much. The Mountain West pretty much believes that all Federal money is stolen from us anyway. Look at how few of the conservative states have expanded Medicaid even though the Federal government is paying for it.
He does. He's the last man standing at the "Utah Institute of Technology" in Afton, Utah. John Galt lands there, introduced himself in his unique way, and recruits him. Dagny Taggart crashes the gate when she gives chase to Galt's aircraft.
I'm on a 6-month project in Ogden right now, so if anything does develop I'll have a front-row seat. But I'm guessing nothing will come of this. We'll see.
Utah has a connection with the Galt's Gulch of Atlas Shrugged. It might not seem so at first. But the most likely spot for the Gulch, as some of you might or might not know, is the town of Ouray, Colorado. Which also is the northern terminus of an abandoned narrow-gauge railway line, the Durango. (See "Phoenix-Durango RR.")
Ouray takes its name from Chief Ouray, of the Ute tribe.
I do! Not physically. But, I do want all those big government, we want to own you and run your lives types, squealing like pigs as they run from the Burdizzos... The Feds have no business owning any more land than it takes for military training bases and Constitutionally legitimate government administration buildings.
Finally, some positive news! I doubt the Feds will leave willingly. In addition to legal action, the governor of Utah should deploy the National Guard to these locations, to protect state workers kicking out the Feds...
With States looking for new revenue streams I doubt Utah will give up easily. Unfortunately most State reps can be easily bribed by promises of more Federal money.
Will no doubt contribute to climate change aka global warming and will be the end of western civilization as we know it. Right. Or, perhaps it will contribute to childhood obesity - less taxes paid will give consumers more money to spend on high calorie fast foods and huge sodas requiring further legislation to protect us from ourselves. And on and on and on.
Excellent point. The problem is Idon't see how the Feds can give up this land without losing more elsewhere. I expect some environmental arguement to be made.
Could this be the catalyst for revolution? Look at the Keystone pipeline fiasco. Remember the counties in Colorado that threatened to form a new State - N. Colorado? Clearly there is signifcant unrest and most taxpayers are fed up with the Federal Government. Moochers will be moochers - but producers are the ones that get things done. Elections have consequences and 2016 could be the tipping point.
Likely the state of Utah will soon be informed in secret that this land and all other federal holdings are security for the loans (created from nothing) from federal reserve banksters, as a result of the emergency contrived and created by the federal reserve banksters in the 1913-1933 period. (No, I don't have evidence of said actions.)

Utah was always the main territory of the Utes.
