    They do this exercise in Boy Scout Woodbadge training. I've never liked it. It is meant to show that only through cooperation does everyone benefit, but what it inevitably ends up with is a group that doesn't cooperate, gets the benefit, and creates hard feelings.

    That said, this would support my theory of the Baddest Ass on the Block. Total selfishness even at the expense of others. Which would then support the need for a mechanism of evening the playing field - a reckoning of one's actions would work nicely.
