Looks like they included Ronald McDonald and Santa Claus too.

When people say they "were forced" in the passive voice without indicating who was doing the forcing, it usually was a decision they made on their own not under duress.

The funniest part of the whole read:

    Dear reader,

Due to the increasing number of users engaging in personal attacks, spam, trolling and abusive comments, we are no longer able to host our forum as a site for constructive and intelligent debate.

It is with regret, therefore, that we have found ourselves forced to suspend the commenting function on our articles.

The Moscow Times remains committed to the principle of public debate and hopes to welcome you to a new, constructive forum in the future.

    Regards,

    The Moscow Times

-- What Robin Williams would have referred to as <RussianAccent> "Some basic Soviet suppressions" </RussianAccent> in his 1979 comedy album "Reality... What a concept."

Tweaking the enemy with artistry and humor. Now there is a way to creatively protest and no one gets hurt except for Russian egos.

I am tickled at the images produced - and would have loved to see the Jimi Hendrix statue. (Did you get a pic of it, Dave?).

I do also realize that Iwo Jima, Mt Rushmore and all the other monuments could be subject to being redecorated as Marx, Stalin, etc. (These monuments were not built by conquerors, but on the other hand we have a stronger tradition of freedom too.)

I have sent the link on to some friends. Thanks for the morning chuckle.

I spent a month in Poland in 1992. People were having a wonderful time repainting the statues of heroic Soviet soldiers that seemed to be just about everywhere. The best one I saw had been converted via spray paint into Jimi Hendrix, with his rifle transformed into a guitar and his helmet into a rainbow Afro.
