As much as the Emperor-in-Chief has done to ruin this country, tonight is likely to take the cake. We will have a live reaction to an "executive action" that ought to be in AS: Now Non-Fiction.

Well, when the EPA was formed it was done by presidential decree as well. No vote ever occurred to form that government agency.

While not the same subject matter (so perhaps not in line with the words, but with the thoughts of my post) this is not the first time a president has done through executive decree what should require a congressional vote to get done.

I also do not see much difference if the President ignores the law or congress does it. Both are ill legal unless they change the law. President Reagan did not get the law changed, he simply got congress to agree to pay no attention to the law.

If its the president or the president and congress that choose to ignore the law its still the same. We need to change the law or live by it. I think immigration law needs major changes, not to be bypassed once again.

You like the action? Would you like it if squatters took up residence in your house and a duly appointed court said that is ok?

"How do you respond to those who came here legally and obeyed our laws?"
I don't have the answer, but we can't keep looking the other way. We have possibly >10 million people here illegally. If we're going to have rules about who comes here, we need to enforce it. After decades of ignoring the problem, do we start a massive project to catch and jail millions and anyone who knew or should have known they were hiring them or abetting them in some other way? Maybe that should be part of it. It seems to me, though, we should put our efforts into preventing the problem and doing some sort of amnesty and path to a work visa for all the people who have hired illegal labor and for the undocumented workers caught up in it.

A few years ago we didn't hire our first-choice nanny because she said she couldn't be documented. She offered to work extra if we would just pay her under the table. It turned out she was legally here with her husband who was in school but not allowed to work. Imagine that. We want people to work, yet we have spouses of students who are allowed to be here but can't work. Many people told us going Zoe Baird is the standard way to hire nannies. Our attorney and accountant told us that's often true, but it doesn't make it legal. We ended up paying more, having to do the usual payroll hassles of SUTA, 941, WT-6/7, and W-2/3s that we do for people at work. I have no high regard for those who took the easy route. But we desperately need steps, even upsetting steps, to get to a place where we have rules about who can be/work here and we follow them.

How do you respond to those who came here legally and obeyed our laws? Many of them are extremely upset at this.

What this administration does with statistics should make every statistician and quality control person want to shrug.

I wish Congress had taken this action. I like the action, but I'm concerned about executive power. I'm not a lawyer, but it seems like the Executive branch gets more power all the time. The next president may be someone I don't agree with, and she/he will have these powers.

I found out today how he can say that there has been more deportations since he took office... He has included all of the people that are turned back at the border which had never been counted as deportations before. Just like his unemployment numbers do not reflect the people who have stopped looking for work!!!

The only problem with that cartoon view of the Constitution is that the document should have been "living and breathing", as the libs like to say.

I watched the speech because I heard it would last 11 minutes and I wanted to catch comments about it on the O'Reilly Factor. There is one line made by the Emperor that had me diving for a note pad and a pen I keep by me when I watch TV. This is part of what his highness said while addressing illegals:
"You may stay in this country temporarily without fear of deportation."
That statement struck me as very contradictory, since I do believe they all want to stay here permanently.
Oh, well, the royal pain was moving his lips again.
