nope; I said nothing about groups. I said customer. this is an individual choice. I have effectively closed my tiny dj business because I have emphysema, but that doesn't prevent me from helping my neighbor who will never repay me -- most recently a $100 gift this past Tuesday to the local "love kitchen" in the name of Tal Fortgang, who requested that instead of receiving it himself. the use of government force must be VERY carefully limited, else freedoms die. -- j

then, logically, the government should protect the customer from the closure of the business, since that action is somehow hurting the customer. yes? I suggest that my decision to decline to serve a customer is not hurting that customer, but instead removing the possibility of any interaction -- whether beneficial or hurtful. if a government forces me to serve a customer, I will respond. this is the lesson of John Galt. "I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine." remember? -- j

excuse me, but if it's my business, I may "kick someone out" for any reason which I might choose, and bear the consequences. the fact that the governments force me to avoid this is immoral. the proof is this: if it's my business and I am forced to perform my act (sell, bake, photograph, etc.) by anyone, I am free to close. That sounds somewhat... backwards. A successful person may want to share the gains of their success, but unless they look out for #1 first, they won't have the means to be the "socially responible" brother-lover as deemed politically correct by the exalted ones...

I can't wait until you start your own business. There's all kinds of riff raff in the world you won't want to deal with. And it has nothing to do with race although you're hell bent on making it an issue. You called me a racists when I wasn't even talking about a person's race. Do you know how old that's getting? Put that power tool back in it's case...it no longer works. (And in my book, whining and crying is "bad behavior".)

Selfless means just that....you think of yourself LESS than others. To whom are we being "generous" and "helpful"? Do we get a choice or is it pre assigned. I prefer to help those I think worthy of helping. Who you think worthy might be different than who I think worthy. Some don't WANT to be helped and throwing money and things at them only makes the giver feel some satisfaction but doesn't change a thing for the receiver. "Helping" and "giving" is subjective. Some just like to be perceived as generous for self absorbed reasons. It's like saying someone is "nice"...it means nothing without knowing the reasons and motives behind their actions. I, as a rule, shy away from feel good crap. If you're drowning and I can save you without risking my own life...then I'll save you. :)
