Gotta admire someone who sticks up for their beliefs

"Pastafarianism". I'd much rather live with someone like this that someone who'd rather kill me for disagreeing with them. I also admire the humor - anyone who can't laugh at themselves is missing out on one of the pure joys in life. ;)

my hat when entering -- to compare me with my
    driver's license photo, I'm sure -- sooooooo,
does she have to take her colander with her for
    comparison purposes??? -- j

Some churches get money for selling indulgences. I think I'll set up a stand in the narthex of your church and sell sheets of genuine tin foil, so the true believers can make their own head covering as their conscience dictates. The rolls will be blessed by a member of the local clergy of metallurgy, approved by no less than a Bishop of Bauxite... and shall be of the size approved for such holy headwear in Machinery's Handbook.

(Note - the Reynolds Wrapturian sect providing genuine holy sheets of foil are in no way connected with the Orthodox Pastafarians or members of the Old Dutch Oven (iron caste) Reformed Church.)

Yeah, I think they used some old pictures to go along with the new story because they couldn't find more recent stuff before publishing. Kind of tacky, I agree.

    I love that lady!
For years when filling out forms of one sort or another, when it asked for religion I'd put down Erisian. Worshipping Eris, the Greek goddess of chaos. I just might switch to Pastafarianism. For one thing, it has a longer name which makes it sound more sophisticated. Are there two branches, one with a red sauce and one with a white sauce? Inquiring gourmets want to know.

If any of the mideast fundies saw any of Asia Carrera's movies, they'd put a price on her head and also be damned by their own faith. In her day, she was a fine actress. That was back when porn flicks still sort of had plots. The Oklahoma license pictured is probably a stock image peripherally related to the article. Minor data, Asia has in the past mentioned being a member of Mensa and I seem to recall her mentioning Rand on her website some years back in a positive way.

Agree 90%. By posing as a member of a blatantly silly "religion", she is in effect mocking all religion as silly. I'm all for it, but it wouldn't surprise me if certain folks in the Middle East with no sense of humor put a price on her head.

I reread that article several times and am still missing something. Maybe I haven't had enough coffee... The driver's license is from OK but this story was about UT. The signature on the license appeared to resemble Lemmon (the name of the lady in the article) but the article states her legal name was Steinhauser. What what?

Someone started that "faith" on a bet--was that concept any more difficult to believe in than God.

You have a point--about Muslims, and also, I dare say, about Hindus--I was just thinking of the civil wars in India.

I especially enjoy the official statement of FSM:

"With millions, if not thousands, of devout worshipers, the Church of the FSM is widely considered a legitimate religion, even by its opponents – mostly fundamentalist Christians, who have accepted that our God has larger balls than theirs."

That's some funny stuff right there. All silliness aside, they do a great job at using satire to point out common logical fallacies in many organized religions.
