Reminds me of the "state science institue, minus the science" quote from AS. I guess private business can't figure this out, but throwing $2b at gov labs will do the trick.

Instead of weaning vehicles off oil, the Emperor needs to be weaned off aviation fuel. How much did it cost us for AF1 to fly to Illinois? How many months could the White House....the PEOPLES house be open if he hadn't made that trip?

While I'm calculating and planning every penny of the yearly start-up costs in hopes of making some money this year despite the yet to be revealed consequences of sequester on the business, the Alpha Hotel in Chief is off wasting time and our money.

Spending other people’s money with abandon is not how discoveries are made. Just because I want a time machine doesn’t mean I could create a practical one by throwing gold at people who would take the money just as happily to study why lesbians are fatter than homosexuals… And even if I could, what would be the cost, and suffering by taking all that money from others?
We already have abundant resources and are learning to use them in cleaner more efficient ways all the time. It is the normal trend of advancing civilizations. The third world nations use dirtier fuels.
If there are promising technologies they will find no shortage of private investors.
The only project I can think of, that probably couldn’t have been done by the private sector in the time frame, was the Manhattan Project. Its cost in dollars and humanity are incalculable. Its benefits aside from ending WWII and potentially saving American lives are not embraced. Nuclear power sounded like it was the panacea once upon a time…

When there is an alternative to oil the free market will discover it because it's profitable. This dude is so out of touch with reality that I wonder if he knows the difference between being asleep and awake.

No doubt the President's minions will find appropriate 'friends of the Administration' to invest OUR $2,000,000,000 in. While the President seems incapable of not crossing any line he himself has drawn in the sand, we understand that a billion dollars is actually ONE THOUSAND, MILLION DOLLARS. Hardly chump change even in his distorted world of Keynesian economics.
