The world's First Transcontinental Railroad was built between 1863 and 1869 to join the eastern and western halves of the United States. Big government bureaucracy sure has caught up with technology... sheesh.

I'm a California resident myself, and I wont likely see the completion of this project... if it even happens. Projects of this type are some of the most financially dangerous of our time, it essentially gives government a blank check to add whatever it wants to its budget. If we're lucky, this will turn out like the subway system in Cincinnati and it will stop when the cash flow runs dry. But knowing California and all the pressure from private interest to see this one through.. it will likely bankrupt us instead.
