But this is no longer just a book. In a book, the characters can look like anything you want them to. A series of movies needs to have consistency if it is going to have any chance of being successful. Can you imagine what would have happened with The Empire Strikes Back if it had completely different people in it than Star Wars?

I disagree. I think it was in one of Ayn Rands books about writing fiction. But she said the key to writing great books is there ability to not be identified with a certain time period. For instance using brands that are here this year and gone the next. She purposefully made the book so it couldn't be dated.

Whether intentional or not I like the message it presents. It is part two of a story but anyone can fill the part of being the next Dagny Taggart or Hank Rearden.

Agreed - the Part I actors did well, and I think they should have returned. I can't help speculating though about WHY none were brought back, I'm imagining that they all had trouble finding work from the Hollywood establishment...

As for the production.. yeah, little things bugged me in P1, like Dagny saying "It looks like they all just walked away" while standing in a vacant factory. I worked once for CEI at the
Perry Nuke plant. Perry was halfway through construction of a Unit 2 when company brass suddenly said "everyone go home, we're suspending construction. THEY "just walked away" - they laid down their tools, and whatever components they were working on, and left it all behind. The unfinished plant was (probably still is) completely stocked and ready for the project to resume - not a vast, hollow structure like the one in the film. A train moving at 300mph can't snake around on the bank of a winding river (production issue), and NO responsible locomotive engineer would push a train to 300mph on its first trip across new track along an unfamiliar route (story problem) (300 mph is a realistic goal on the long, straight, flat track of, say, Iowa, but not the winding mountainside track of Colorado). When the set doesn't fit the script, that's bad production. But Rand didn't write A.S to be a technical reference on railway engineering... and, considering the budget, the lack of support from the Hollywood establishment, and the subject - I can overlook the tangential flaws in P1.

I haven't seen the trailer, but from the advance photos I'm disappointed that the cast was changed. Especially Taylor Schilling - not the world's best actress, but she looked EXACTLY like the Dagny I pictured while reading the book.

I have to admit I'm disappointed with the trailer. I think it is a terrible mistake to have a completely different cast.

I would like to thank you for the generous offer but I will decline. If I can't make it to New-York on my own steam, I am ill placed to ask you for resources to do so. It's all about the blue-collar working's man pride, you know.

If you wish to do me a favor, kindly find someone out there who's in "the fence" regarding Rand's ideals and drag him to see the movie. You will do more good in the larger scale than inviting someone who's ready to move to the gulch in a moment's notice.

I am glad to hear that an ex-canuck found a way down-south. Depending of the situation in my corner of the world I might just join you. ;)

Understood, but I would put a call out to raise some funds for you to get here, if you change your mind. People in these parts are very helpful. One of the reasons I loved this Country and moved from Canada myself ;)

Be sure that the thought is in my mind. I am a 8 hours drive away from New-York and I got a valid passport. Sadly, my current financial situation and my professional obligations are putting a heavy damper on any plan to see the movie. It will be for another time.

Some of the new actors don't look the way I envisioned the characters and Part 1 didn't help. In the book Dagny is in her mid to late 30's--this woman looks older. I do like Esai Morales as Francisco--the actor in Part 1 looked like a bum. Just my opinion.

This will be good yet I will have to wait for the DVD. Since I am living in Canada, I will not be able to assist a viewing anytime soon.

Not only did I not notice, but I was all geared up to Wireshark the premiere only to learn that it was already up on YouTube ready for the keepvid.com 'ing.

    Damn good trailer though!

Did anyone else notice that the producers got to see the trailer 30 minutes before the moochers? :)
