Freedomforall and I are going to check out aidomes.com's Rockledge, FL office on 11/22 as a cheap housing alternative for Atlantis. If interested, contact me at jbrenner@fit.edu. It is only 6 minutes from my house, and we are going to have a Gulch meetup before or afterwards. I'll probably play AS1 on my DVD as we game plan for Atlantis.

    Hello jbrenner,
Very interesting. We have a few geodesic homes around here, but the exterior finish is quite different. For Florida these make a lot of sense when you consider the hurricane threats. I could deal with it, but many may not appreciate the non-traditional appearance. Low maintenance and utility costs are attractive features; especially for retirement.

My wife says, we would need to paint a very Florida color... Probably offend the neighbors... :) Lately she has grown fond of that light aqua blue we keep seeing in the Keys.

I see they are quite flexible in design and square footage. I don't see how I could downsize to less than 1500 square feet and at least a two plus car garage... toys you know. :)

The more important factor would actually be location and parcel size. I need enough distance to rattle my windows with my guitar and stereo from time to time without offending the neighbors. This is also why I live in the sticks.
    It is a dream… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCJfKtvxe...
    Regards,
    O.A.

I like peach, sea foam green, and aqua blue. However, my house is white with some dark pink and dark green highlights. I'm not sure what colors I would get for a dome.

I wish I was down in that part of the country to participate. (For a lot of reasons, not least of which winter is coming apace here in NH)

I like the concept of those units, and if the material specs are accurate they appear to be a good option.

It's time for you to come down to east central Florida as a snowbird, Technocracy.

Sorry, Technocracy. This was no comment on your age. It was a comment about the wisdom of people who come down to paradise when they are able to do so. Why put up with snow and ice? I have 211,000 miles on my car because I don't live in a place where the car won't last.

            Just pulling your chain :)

Winter road salt is an unpleasant fact of life up here. I wind up at the car wash a lot in winter for undercarriage washes.

Now that I no longer commute out of state for work, it would take me over 30 years to put that kind of mileage on a vehicle. I average around 7k miles a year now. I am actually more concerned with not enough use to keep everything lubricated. I figure the FJ will last me quite a while.

My car is a 97 Honda Accord, perhaps the best car ever made. Until a couple of years ago, of the five faculty my department had then, three of us had 97 to 99 Accords. All of them lasted at least 12 years.

Coincidentally, I had a 97 Honda Accord that, yes, lasted exactly 12 years. All the electronics going out on the dashboard during a long night drive was when I finally decided to trade it in.

I have had to replace parts of the A/C a couple of times. Other than that, only routine maintenance!

I forgot. My A/C being out was why I was making a 5-hour trip at night. It was an August drive from the Florida Panhandle to my Birmingham area. Glad my headlights stayed on in the middle of nowhere. I was by myself and had a broken cell phone too! It got real boring without a working radio or CD player.
