    Here in Florida we have a SuperWalmart, two Super food stores within a mile of each other and now another SuperWalmart going up 1 and one half mile from the first. They are all on US 19 but one. Thats off US 19 by 4 blocks.
    Walmart is not all that cheap. And they are killing all the smaller stores and supermarkets in this small patch of city. How is this a great thing?. They pay crap and want to drop all their staff to 36 hrs a week! A job with nothing extra but a poor wage and the demand to work like two people all the time!

    Nonsense! As a former Wal-Mart stockholder, I cannot agree. Sam Walton started out with one small store in Rogers, AR, and refused to close down when a rival threatened him (the rival was Ben Franklin Stores, a local variety store chain. He was as much a hero of American free enterprise as F.W. Woolworth and W.T. Grant!

    Not at the beginning. He was a smart businessman who built an empire through hard work and determination. The behemoth that is walmart today is not what it was when Sam Walton was alive. The reductions in benefits, wages, etc, have all been after his death. I was working for them at the time he passed and it did not take long to start seeing a change in culture. However, it still stands that he built a powerful business that has continued to be innovative and provide jobs for thousands..

    I completely agree, every company I have worked for, was started by an individual or family and built into something great. That includes Walmart and Kohl's, both of which have been attacked over the years for being horrible predatory 'big business' companies. I now work for a mid size trucking company that has made a lot of money for it's owners and now makes a decent living for a couple hundred of us in office and shop and makes money for almost 800 drivers/owner operators out on the road.

    Also, how many of our modern conveniences and devices were created/invented by businessmen trying to be better than their competition and/or make more money for themselves and their employees.

    We need to be teaching a lot more about business and all the incredible things it has done, not government. Check out a current Social Studies or Government text and you'll find that they are backwards about what is highlighted.
