It certainly is, in many unexpected places. I have a small waterproof box of med supplies at the ready, and have done so since 9/11. I just go through it from time to time to make sure stuff is up to date. I believe there are some who have Bug out Bags?...
You don't have BOB? (Bug Out Bag) Think of it as this: you find out the Nazi SS (DHS) are coming for your block and you have about 5 minutes to grab the most precious material items you can think of. What would it be?
Hard commodities (coins of gold, silver, copper), a medical kit, passport, your ID, small to medium flashlights, a small firearm, $500+ actual cash, and some high-protein snacks. A pocket knife, a radio, spare batteries, wind-proof matches, gloves and your phone list of friends & family (you don't want THEM to get it would you?)
That should cover most of it. But realistically, you should be able to get this together in about 5 minutes time, depending on how organized you keep your stuff. (See my George Carlin post on "stuff".) =)
Yes, in such a scenario, you would have to take a huge loss, but what would you want to deny the bastards of the most? This should govern your preparation in making a BOB.
Good question: roughly 20 or so. And yes, mine are NSA spec: 12 or more characters, minimum 2 Upper Case 2 Lower Case, 2 Special and 2 Numbers.
I decided to test the strength of my old ones at Gibson Research Corporation's site and after awhile they estimated it would take 154 years using 1 computer to crack it. Try it some time, just make sure it's not a password you're currently using.
How important are Ham radios...and licenses? My husband and son (who got his when he was 10) have them (licenses I mean).... Not as good as a radio that doubles as a flashlight I guess. lol
Ham radio is cool. But, does your hubby have his radio equipment configured for mobility? Don't forget generators to power the stuff. I think, should things really fall to crap, having a license to operate HF radios is a none-issue.
Ham language isn't ...language... It's your call sign, or whatever it's called that you say first when you talk...which only identifies who YOU ARE! NOT useful.. although my son got a pretty neat call sign assigned to him... which again...is useless and means nothing, but was still an accomplishment at the time... sigh.
is that your briteesh accent? my dad gave it to my son one year for his birthday. my dad gives odd presents. he also gave him a remote controlled hot air balloon with camera and a working steam engine from germany. he gave me a reel to reel tape recorder when I was in 2nd grade. He also gave me miniature electric car sets when I was little. it was fun, but I am suspicious he just wanted to play with these things himself.
ok. I get it. I have such, but didn't call it that. it just seems practical in another country. in the US, it was pictures and important papers. how times have changed, sigh I wan the looong list. is there a goto website you use, uncommon?
I'm not US, but: Build the Perfect Bug-out Bag by Creek Stewart. Detailed chapters for what you need and WHY you need it; checklist at the end for one-stop basic BOB assembly at a big-box store for around $300. My BOB was already in process when I found this book, but it brought out several things I hadn't thought about.
I generally lurk unless I have something to say. Been out of town at a prepper expo this weekend. Saw some interesting items ahd heard a very scary lecture about how natural disasters are gonna get us before the political situation does. I keep seeing you say that you're outside the U.S. - where?
I don't have any websites, but I do monitor this one: http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/ I did buy a few books for ideas, can't list them at the moment.
I know a lot of people do that, but the thought of that scares me to death...I'd be that person that gets heroin planted on them and I'd end up in a Mex prison for 9 months kicking myself for trying to get cheap scripts.
Here, your doc orders the amount of meds you need and that is all you get, it is hard to stock up. So I pick up what I use and rotate them in to stock up.
I have always paid out of pocket as well. I love it when you refill and they always look at you like there has to be some kind of mistake. and they even hesitate to ring it up and you have to sort of encourage them to go ahead so you can get on with your shopping lol
From the Dr. I mean.... I can't order it without one. I don't know why I'm asking...I couldn't pay full price anyway. The after ins. amount is killing me already.
ok. if you are working for yourself, insurance premiums are high. they count every preexisting condition. so if you ever had a sinus infection, just try to get them to cover an antibiotic. this is state by state, so my case may not be your case. we have never opted to get pharm coverage over other coverage. we pay cash with a discount at some pharmacies. that price is way off the insurance covered prices. which is part of the BIG PROBLEM obamacare never cared to solve. if one person pays a copay of $15 for a drug that cash price is $150-how is that even in the realm of capitalism? of course, if taxes were at a reasonable rate, and other countries were forced to pay the cost of drugs, people would be able to budget their medical expenses appropriately. but we are in an upside down, govt controlled world that expects alot of something for nothing. trust me. new antibiotics, new procedutres, new R and D???? who pays for it???? NO ONE. Pharma has their BOB packed
I would say you need to swap her out if we hit Armageddon, but I know she's smarter and funnier than you-important skills to have in such a dire situation :)
Hmmm. Never heard of it. Was it a kids show? My kids used to watch Big Comfy Couch. Remember that? I laughed whenever she would lift the couch bottom to reveal the Dust Bunnies. lol. My daughter would always ask me if she could have some dust bunnies. ;( They're almost grown now.
My BOB is 50% ready. The other stuff I can pull out of my gun safe in under 2 minutes and go. Oh, I keep my BOB near the door ~ you never know when you'll need it. If a tornado strikes, no problem, I got BOB with me & the family. It's not just for the DHS goons...
Sounds like you just identified a new business. When will you get started? Oh, we won't need BOB's in the Gulch. But for the Outside, it's a whole different story.

Is it all kept in his "rack"?

seriously, we need decorative BOB containers.
"my BOB is 50% ready"
you'll have to do better than that before you go announcing it! lol
oh, and what's the best kind of lock to have on your door? double key?
