eBay Criticized After Holocaust Souvenirs Hit The Online Auction Blocks « CBS New York

Is there something wrong with buying or selling pieces of history from time periods and events that should not be remembered? When you teach younger people about historic tragedies sometimes having a piece to display from that period can make it sink in so much deeper and it encourages questions and conversation that I think are vital to keeping history from repeating itself. Words in a book, lectures from a teacher, or photos do not have the safe affect of being able to touch, see, and feel an object that was THERE.
Opinions please....

Personal clothing from Holocaust victims are not historical items, suitable for sale.

Never mind that there would be no way to authenticate them....

"According to eBay’s own policy it does not allow items that glorify hate or promote religious intolerance."

    The artifacts did neither.

If I were flush with money, I'd probably buy as many as I could and donate them to a Holocaust museum.

Basically, they're turning these artifacts into white elephants.
G'ahead, Mimi... tempt me into explaining the origin of "white elephant" :D
