This is an older article, but it's relevance in the current state of world tensions and the ever present threat from ISIS, couldn't be more poignant.
Will you sleep well tonight? I most likely will not.

The same thing happened in the soviet union in the 1930s with disastrous results for the Russian army in the Russo/Finnish war, the Continuation War and WW2. The only difference in Russia was that Stalin killed the Generals and senior leadership that he didn't like.

Just like Joseph Stalin and it will probably have the same disastrous results.

Didn't say they were droids (my wording was admittedly lacking in precision), but I do not think they are the type to actively foment rebellion. That sort doesn't fare well within the military, and these men excelled in that environment.

This makes me think of the movie Gladiator. Where is our General Aelius Maximus Decimus Meridius?

    Granted.

I am still heartened by the outcry against this from both LE and civilians.

Note that the "non-traditional" targets were not destroyed or recalled. They were "taken off-line." You simply will no longer hear about them.

Thank you. Fortunately, most of the hits are from Feb 2013; once since then was about a LE shooting his daughter when she snuck home at night.

I am pleased that the LE folks objected to this program as well as the citizenry. I do wish that a finger had been pointed at specifically 'who' had commissioned the 'non-traditional targets'.

Uh. No. Spending a life following orders does not mean that you are a droid. It just means that you are good at working around the orders. It is called "obeying orders" and is active at all levels of rank. "Obeying orders" results in stuff like a house being painted green - walls, windows, roof, chimney...

I think that Babylon 5 depicted "obey the chain of command" very well. Most officers who were promoted during war ('conflict') are adept at this.

Republican "control" hasn't made such a difference in the past hundred years.
It will not in the next hundred either.
(Or if you meant repulican, please explain.;^)

They spent their lives following orders with little, if any, resistance.
I doubt there is a Gen. James Mattoon Scott among them.

Obama has this handicap that Hitler, Stalin, Mao, et al. did not: Obama cannot shoot his generals.

So, to make following immoral orders easier, at least through experience, the police departments have been ordering shooting targets with pictures of pregnant women and children on them. This is not the America of our parents anymore...

I doubt it. Part of the purge process is to demoralize the person so that they are just happy enough to be out.

Perhaps these top miltary officers might just be the leaders we need to head up the coup and get our constitution back in our gov.

When I first heard he that Obama was doing this, my immediate thought was that he fears a coup.

    And he should.

I was watching 'The Patriot' the other day with my son. An order is given to British troops to shoot civilians. They balk at first, but then follow through with it. I explained that doing so condoned the immorality of that action. Disobeying a direct order that is immoral and unlawful is moral. I'm not saying to disobey a commanding officer if it's just. But if evil is being done, and one doesn't do something about it, that's evil.

I have silently wondered why a patriotic 4 star and a hand picked group of Marines have not ended the march to socialism? Good men are standing by and doing nothing.

And the burning question is: Will all those officers loyal to the Constitution meekly accept its destruction at the hand of this president?
