If all goes well, (leaking some level of doubt out of a life time of experience), The People will be in control.

Of course I agree with your assessment of these tech company leaders.

However, I have a feeling that's exactly how "Mr. Thompson" and his ilk felt about Dagny Taggart, Hank Reardon, etc.

And it doesn't change my stance against Big Government attempting to exert control over corporations.

But I gave up long ago thinking Trump would ever stop acting Trumpian.

Going from spelling champ writing a book in 2012 to How to spell anything? chump in 2026, I get the question.
The excuse I use is: Too many Tabs open.

All for the free market but only for Consciously introspective Human beings which I don't think these so called leaders of industry are in total.
Most, I suspect are Schizophrenic at best with or without a fully functioning conscience.
The temptation is way too great, even for the best of us.
. . . and I won't even get into the adverse affects of a weakening magnetic field upon the human brain never mind a computer brain.

I understand your position, and I definitely did not miss that.

But I'm not interested in playing semantic games.

I will never be a fan of any Agreement signed by the heads of individual corporations and the leader of the U.S. federal government.

Had the leaders of the individual corporations themselves made an Agreement that did not include the leader of the U.S. federal government, then I would have no problem with it.

(But we all know the chances of the current leader of our U.S. federal government passing up the opportunity to sign his own name, big and bold, to such an Agreement, not to mention taking full credit for making it happen.)

All of that being said, I'm actually okay with this Agreement because I believe the leaders of these individual corporations know that (a) it is completely voluntary and toothless, so they can continue to do whatever the heck they want anyway, and (b) perhaps this grand smoke-and-mirrors (in other words, very Trumpian) show will have some kind of calming effect on the popular "AI is going to kill us all, so the government had better do something about it" fearmongering that's been going around, thus allowing these individual corporations to continue developing their AI tools in a wild, unchecked race with each other, with very little regard to long-term safety, privacy, or other concerns.

Ah... The beauty of the Free Market...

p.s. I just noticed that I misspelled John Galt's last name in my last comment, so now I'm questioning just how big of an Ayn Rand fan I actually am...

AH, here is what you missed. It's not governments heavy hand, it's the "Agreement" they agreed to sign that is the heavy hand.
We all know it, We all witnessed it, now they are bound by their own actions and the "LAW" to do no harm.

It's the only way I know to get non humans to act Human , even if their handicap is the temptation of the work itself.
Many scientist experience that temptation to do a thing even though, if they could thought of it, wouldn't do it in the first place . . .(like create a virus?)

We'll have to agree to disagree, OUC.

I've never been a fan of the heavy hand of government.

Which is why I'm a fan of Ayn Rand and a member of Gult's Gulch.

Exactly. Not anything worth celebrating, especially for Ayn Rand fans.

Seems like Atlas Shrugged come to life.

AI/SI NEEDS a heavy hand to keep it in check otherwise it WILL BE YOUR DADDY.
Most of the creatures involved are not truly introspective themselves, they need the pier pressure to act human.

("ACT" human, even though they are probably not in the full sense of it)
However, if the governing body (DC) goes south, it's all lost anyway.

So they can lock out competition - so no other company can make money or even a product in their space.

Communism/Marxism is designed to destroy a society, and it has worked wherever it has been tried.

Even now, my reflex is to say that Communism has never worked….

Since this is "Galt's Gulch," could someone here please explain to me why we should be celebrating that half a dozen private companies officially submitted to oversight and regulation by the federal government?

Depending on the election results, you might not be able to grill if you live in Texas.
Enjoy your hamburgers, which are some of my favorite foods.

Agreed - and had planned on that. But still worried about the young ones. Will not have enough to insulate them....

Make yourself as independently self reliant as possible and position yourself as far away from government as possible.
Look for others like yourself and dig in.

    Thanks OGC!

Good set. Shows what will happen if the shepple elect these charlatans.
The only way to stop it is with education which is so sadly lacking at this point, and with turnout of voters that understand what is at stake.
Now if common sense does not prevail, what are our options? I am getting to where I will probably run out my string - but what about my son and grandchildren? He talks the same way I do, but he has more years to try to navigate.

    Just curious as to thoughts....

All good this week, OUC, thanks! Hey, the commies have to try it here just in case it might work this time - as visions of free stuff flood their dreams, har har har! To me, all this SI meeting with Trump is the beginning of an IEEE type standard for the industry - probably not a bad idea and having the industry leaders set it up is probably a good idea, too, as long as it isn't used as a cudgel against future contributors, uh I mean competitors. "In Today's News" had me remarking, "That's about right for the commie networks", LOL.
