- 2Posted by mccannon01 2 days, 8 hours agoGood article! Growing up in the 50s and 60s I understood "melting pot" as a mixing of similar European peoples into an American culture. My neighborhood was such a melting pot as I am Scots-Irish decent and my friends were German, Polish, Italian, English and French. We all had the same "American" goals in life. It worked quite well. Producing, not pillaging, was what we were about.| Permalink
