Thumbs up on all that, JakeOrilley! Enjoyed camping year around as an assistant scout master for a couple of years. Winter camping on the back side of Bristol mountain (opposite Bristol ski resort NY) in January with the troop was a hoot. Also tent camped in the Adirondacks, but in the heat of summer. Wonderful experiences.

Yeah - I used to tramp around NY, around the Elmira area, and upstate - went camping in the Adirondacks in the winter in a tent - loved it at the time!
But would not do that now on a bet - Waaaay too old for that kind of nonsense.....but did love it at the time.
Hate that due to the politics/costs/restrictions that sooo many young will not have that opportunity... it was a great time to clear my head, and realize that I could do whatever I wanted to do if I REALLY wanted to, and if I messed up - would be dead. Had to plan, had to realize limitations, knew what I had on my back was all that was available.
The wilds of the State of New York provided me many of life lessons. I did not follow all of them, and forgot a few of them over the years....
But I do not believe that if many of the things that were taught me there had not been taught me I would not have done as well as I had.

Elmira and Ithaca are in beautiful country. Can't recall Troy though I know I've been through it many years ago. Sounds like you have good memories there.

We're in the same boat here, rainman0720! Mine doesn't buy that dodge, either. LOL, but a cheeseburger without the beef is an abomination.

Okay, another light bulb. I am going to Elmira NY next week for 60th class reunion and was wondering what the map was all about. When I think of Troy, it's RPI (where my uncle got his engineering degree), and Ithaca = Cornell (where our rock band played gigs in sorority houses), LOL!

First there were NAZI's - National Socialists
Now there are DAZI's - Democrat Socialists

    NAZI's targeted Jews
    DAZI's target Christians (and whites).

I'm still trying to convince my better half that a loaded cheeseburger WITHOUT lettuce is actually healthy for me! No luck so far...

Snickering up a storm here over my coffee this morning thanks to this excellent collection! Uh wait, no snickering at your picks for Helen and Athena, wow! The commie anchor drowning its victim is priceless - makes me look at that symbol in a whole new way, nice! My wife won't buy lettuce from anybody right now so it's a good thing I'm presently growing my own. ALWAYS discard Kamala salad!

Got my best laugh from the New York State map showing the cities of Troy and (originally the island of) Ithaca. There's another Troy in Alabama where I graduated from Troy State University. Ain't no Ithaca along down heah, though. Talkin' hick, I'm suddenly recalling what I did to my first roommate for laughing as he snatched loose change I had dropped into a drawer beside my bed. Fresh out of the Marines, I was quite fit enough to toss his overgrown ass out into the dorm's hallway.
Scampering off, he actually yelled, "I'm gonner throw yuh outta thet thar window! Thet thar window!" He didn't do Schiff. Save for soon quitting college.
Heard the latest Odysseus flick got attacked by the Woketopus there's a book about. Not gonna waste the 4-hour length on watching that 'un. Read that the makers still could not squeeze in every literary scene of the Odyssey in it. Me dino done read Homer's book along with the Iliad as assignments at Bama's Troy. Saw three shorter movie versions. Last 'un ah done saw is called The Return and Kirk Douglas starred in the first one.
In each I~~bwa!~ha!~ha!~~enjoyed watching all the parasite suitors deserve to get slaughtered. Now they make me think of Mamcommie and his spoiled sponging greedy ilk.
