Celebrating my Anniversary in a Libertarian Utopia

I got a kick out of this. I enjoy hanging out in Virginia City, NV. It's a short drive from my home. It is a little town that sprung up in the mountains east of Reno during the Comstock Load, in the 1860s. Very historic, fully-functioning town with most of the main street structures still in use as bars, eateries, and casinos. Anyway, we went over there yesterday to celebrate our anniversary and spend the night in an old hotel. Yesterday they had a chili cookoff contest and beer fest. The place tends to be very patriotic, right-leaning. As we walked onto the main street my wife pointed out that one of the first chili stands we saw was from The Mustang Ranch. Maybe you've heard of it. It's probably our most-famous brothel. They also happened to have my favorite chili of the entire event. Delicious. One of the girls working at the stop was an employee of the establishment and we had a nice conversation about the excellent restaurant at The Ranch. When the attendees got out of the way, there was an old hot rod Ford doing burnouts on the main street without any police interference. It's not unusual to see people dressed in the old west garb, including loaded 45s on their hips. The people who staff the drinking establishments tend to be very eclectic, often tattooed, very friendly young people who enjoy living the the isolated environment of the town. Some of the rest of the bartenders are old cowboys.

This is where Mark Twain started his writing career, writing for one of the newspapers. But, he left town eventually when challenged to a duel. Very interesting place. I hope you get to check it out sometime. FWIW, there are plenty of good videos about it on YouTube.

Sounds like a great place. I should fit right in with my boots, Stetson, and ssa .45lc. That's my kind of town.

Sounds like a fun place, Abaco. Glad you had fun there. My wife and I just did our 40th at a tractor pull in Yadkinville NC, followed by a long weekend in Boone and Banner Elk.

Thank you for sharing your experience in context of a real-life true story. I will make it a point to stop in to Virginia City, Nevada on my way from Olympia Washington to Sierra Vista Arizona during my June Road Trip. Cheers.

Sounds great. Glad you both had a good time. You make me wish my wife and I were closer as our 45th is Saturday and it sounds like it would make a nice weekend.

That's where the Cartwrights went to "go to town". The "Ponderosa" was to the south. For the younger set, google "Bonanza"...
