When I saw the report with the video of a teacher in California leading her second grade class on a protest of ICE all I could think of were newsreels of the Chinese cultural revolution under Mao. Same with all the protests in high schools and colleges across our land. These kids are clueless. It seems they can quote Marx and spew out the latest left wing narratives, but can't balance a checkbook.

I teach freshman English in a local college. It's bad. On the first day of class, I hand out worksheets so they can teach themselves how to read and write cursive. The semester lasts 16 weeks, so there's only so much I can do in such a limited amount of time.

I said years ago, and held up to it (to the tune of a small fortune) that I wasn't going to inflict "public school" on my kids.
My daughter has a Master's Degree and is currently studying to take the MCAT.
I think that:
1) the teacher's unions (and all Federal worker unions, for that matter) should be abolished.
2) local businesses and parent groups should determine curriculum and content, based on the needs of the community
3) parents should pay for their own kids' education
4) "busing" should be eliminated. Parents should be allowed to enroll their kids in schools of their choice, and not to be moved around and have their friends picked for them because of some Democrat's plan for race mixing.
5) "government schools" should be a last resort to teach the incorrigible delinquents how to collect garbage.
The one thing that has destroyed this country more than anything else is symbolized by the yellow school bus.

Never confuse "schooling" with "education."

Back when my kids were in grade school, the district was already too progressive (late 70's), and my kids knew how to read before they were in kindergarten. I started some homeschooling early. We did a lot of talking about their assignments and news broadcasts, both knew cursive, loved to read an eclectic mix of material. Parents need more involvement in their kids education, both in and out of school. Tax dollars are wasted in nearly every school district in the country ((giving benefit of the doubt to a few good places, hoping they exist).

Sorry if my posts are redundant today, but this is critical.
With 35+ years education management (and teaching) experience, I know how bad schools are and that homeschool is an option. The kid in this video is exactly what I like to see, she could explain it in her own words.

Unfortunately, the materials available to most homeschool families are the same anti-conceptual, memorization-based texts. Parents who were raised with such texts might not realize it.

Only schools (or materials) with a Rational Education model, concept-based, virtue-driven can save the minds of our children. However, that is considered so radical here in Silicon Valley that keeping my school running has taken almost every last bit of energy I have. That is why I wrote:

And why sharing it out to teachers, parents and leaders is critical.
It is especially important for homeschoolers to understand the roots of the current failures so they can successfully raise thinkers! Once understood, it is not very difficult.

I have proven that a concept-based, virtue-driven program focused on Rational Education is successful, but the Left here on the Left coast is making it very difficult to continue, unless I can gather more support for the movement not to reform the system but create a parallel one that can operate without the need for the support of the anti-conceptual Prussian machine.
